Is it possible to live as a passenger on the same cruise liner all year round?

I've heard of long term passengers on the QE2 and would love to know if it is possible to spend your life travelling around the world in your "own" luxury home.

I read a story in the paper a few months ago about a pensioner who does this ,apparently it can be cheaper than staying in a nursing home !!

JamaicaJoe
There are some ships that sell floating condos, but you'll need quite a bit of cash. Why not get a job on a criuise ship. That way, you can have your cruise and eat it (or on it rather), too.

crystal cruises offeres excellent trips like that.

ANYTHING is possible with MONEY.

It's possible, but remember most ships don't travel "around the world"...you'd go back and forth to the same ports of call until/unless that ship was given redirection or a new home port and/or ports of call to go to.

Yes there are several that have long term packages...

This is very possible. I have a client that live on the ship every other year. It is completely legal. It is not like living in another country. A cruise line may also offer a special discount for a person that is requesting this type of reservation.

I think its called "The World of Resident Sea"

There's a cruiseship called "The World". You can buy an apartment on it and you can get on and off whenever you want.
They will even pick you up by private helicopter if they're out at sea.

Yes and I read a newspaper article a few years back about someone (obviously rich-rich-rich) that did this...cannot remember the newspaper...I think it was the New York Times or the Chicago Tribune.
People live in hotels all the time so why not a floating hotel?
Sounds like fun!

Yes, it is possible to live on board a cruise ship (can't believe someone said it was illegal). Also, can't believe someone thinks "it will cost about $100,000" - at the very least approx. $200,000+ per year. I've know of several people who have lived on cruise ships. The cruise line puts them in upscale hotels when the ship must go into dry dock for maintenance. There is no rule that says "6 months on and 6 months off" (Do people just make up answers?)

ResidenSea does have a ship named The World which has a variety of apts/condos on board which you can purchase. The residents on board who own these have a "condo association" and make decisions about where the ship will visit,
improvements to the ship, etc. The "association" recently purchased the ship from the company so that they would have complete control of the decision making for the ship.

Ownership opportunities for Studios and Studio Apartments to Apartments onboard The World begin at USD$800,000 for Studios, USD$1,450,000 for one bedroom apartments, USD$2,100,000 for two bedroom apartments and USD$3,575,000 for three bedroom apartments.

Hope this answers your questions. Please contact me if you're interested in something like this.
