Is it possible to take alcohol on a cruise? |
I hear that alcohol on a cruise is very expensive especially if converting to dollars. Is it possible to take some in your luggage? I also hear that bags get unpacked for you thus not making it possible to take on. Also, some non-alcoholic beverages are charged, is this true? |

ok! just got back from a cruise last week! here is the official info! we read all the info on here and when we got on the first duty free port in puerto rico they said"put it in your bag"! WRONG! that got busted and taken during the baggage xray(that won't work) they said stick it down your shorts(I had swim trunks on) my 2 half pints of jim beam in my shorts boarded JUST FINE! The bottom line is this- anything that is shaped like a liquor bottle will be "busted" on the carry on luggage. either transfer into water bottles or sneak on your body(in your socks, swimtrunks, bra) at 7.00-8.00 a drink you have to balance that out with your own drinks(remember at ports of call to do the same thing. |

Actually, most cruiselines prohibit you from bringing on your own alcohol. You can buy it from the cruiseline, but they check your bags when you arrive, and when you get back from port.
Cruisers have gotten around this by hiding it in water bottles etc, but if found, you're liquor will be confiscated and returned to you when you leave the ship
Check with your cruise line for their policy. |

Yes. When my friends and I cruised, we bought liquid for our cabin cocktail parties before we boarded every time. We didn't pack it; we bought it from the duty free shops or the towns from which we were sailing. They have great deals! None of the lines that I've sailed on (Norwegian, Celebrity, and Royal Caribbean) unpacked for us, but I once actually watched the package handlers in at the Paris airport rummaging through my luggage and stealing from me! I would imagine alcohol would be a prime target. Now, you have to leave your bags unlocked for security reasons so at least they won't have to break it or damage the luggage. lol
Yes, all beverages are charged. I traveled with two young men once who were adventurous and discovered that in some of the clubs that are dark during the day, the soda taps are not always turned off, but that is stealing. I'm sure they keep very good tabs on how much should be there.
Just buy your liquor and other beverages from the port and carry it on. We once were having such a great cocktail party, that our porter gave us a bottle of good scotch! Make friends with the staff! |

I always bring my own booze. I put it in water bottles or mouth wash bottles and it works just fine. You have to be sneaky about it but I've never had a problem. |

You have to pay for all sodas as well as alcoholic drinks on the ship. I do not know if you can take some in your luggage but you can try. You can but some in the countries that you visit but you will have to pour it in a water bottle as they ask you to leave it for safe keeping until the last night. I never know they unpack your bags. I went on two cruises and they never unpacked mine or my friends. |

All food is included and all beverages are not.
It may break in your bag and if you have a suite then your bag might be unpacked for you. Plus it takes up a lot of room in your bags and if it breaks then that SUX! |

The short answer is No, absolutely not. All alcohol that youre try to take onboard will be taken away and stored during the cruise and there is a airport check in style screaning at the check in desk. The reason for this is obviously that a lot off the cruise lines revenues comes from selling of drinks and stuff like that. So my best advice is to take a bite off the lemon and use the bars on the ship. Its better for you and your cruiseline.
A typical alcoholic drink normaly costs roughly between $5 to $15 depending on style and size. However some cruise lines offer drink as much as you can for a fixed price packages that can be an alternative. Johan. |

Do you think there won't be enough booze to satisfy hundreds of people?
You can bring some, but you won't have as much if you're sneaking drinks in your room.
The goal is to go out there and mingle.
Also, if you can afford a cruise, throwing out some more money for drinks won't hurt you. |

Soda is charged for all the time, Juice at any time other than breakfast and Lemon aid and Ice Tea are available for free at lunch and dinner on most lines. There is also an option of buying a "soda card" which for about $6 a day you can drink unlimited soda from any bar or restaurant (Not room service). They no longer have liquor programs.
If you are cruising out of the Continental US (Florida, New Orleans, California, Texas) you would only be able to sneak alcohol on in Plastic Soda and Water bottles. If you are boring in an island in the Caribbean there is sometimes someone standing outside the liquor store which is past where you get your Sail and Sign card, inviting you in to buy "Carry On Liquor". While it is not "Allowed" by the cruise line they are more laxed because of a deal they have with the store. Do not ask a store if you can carry it on they will OPENLY ADVERTISE if you can.
As far as non-alcoholic beverages most lines allow you to bring a cooler with sodas, water and snacks on with you HOWEVER they have guidelines on the size of the cooler so just check with your cruise line or travel agent. |
