I have been on many cruises on several cruise lines and I cruise 2 or 3 times a year. I would say that there is NOT a lot of crime on cruise ships. I have never experienced any, nor heard of any passengers who have. You don't have to worry about being robbed on ship or have things stolen from your cabin. Every cabin has its own personal safe for valuables, like money, credit cards, cameras, phones, and other small things that you think may "walk".
Most people who go on a cruise spend a lot of money to go and it would not be profitable for them to engage in petty larceny. They wouldn't break even. Now I am not saying that if someone did something stupid and left a wad of money laying on a lounge chair that it may not disappear. And that would be unlikely since everything on ship is cashless; you MUST use the cruise card given to you at the start of the cruise so there no need to carry around cash. About the only thing that may come up missing on ship is a camera, or cell phone. |

A cruise ship has lots and lots of passengers, some of whom are, unfortunately, not above lifting a digital camera, etc. A few might be predators. The amount of alcohol consumed probably has some impact, too. As to numbers and catagories of crimes, I don't believe that is published anywhere, and since there is no single unit of government with jurisdiction it would not help to file a "freedom of information" request. (And "freedom of information" or "sunshine laws" only apply to government, so a cruise company is not required to answer those questions.) There is an old saying "trust in Allah but tie your camel", and that is good advice. |

I have never felt unsafe on a cruise. Use good judgment, and your risk of being a crime victim is minimal. |

The worst crime on cruise ships (tongue-in-cheek) is the hidden expenses they dock you for. In actualilty, the most common occurrence is staff-on-staff sexual harassment (maybe being at sea for several months at a time) and this is even very rare. Most common major crime is not on board ship but at port-of-call off the beaten trail often from making impromptu arrangements instead of going with ship-sponsored trips and AGAIN this is extremely rare. One is far safer from theft/crime/accident on a ship than at a hotel beach trip. |

As much as there is in any other place that has 3 - 5000 individuals.
It's like a small floating city.
I'm sure most things are not made public, but handled by the cruiseline. |
