Is it worth the extra money: oceanview vs. balcony?

do you think its worth the extra cash to get a room with a balcony?

I would always get the balcony, it's your vacation!
But, if you feel like you won't use it, or won't enjoy it for the extra money then don't bother. But if you think you would, then go for it.

A balcony room is well worth the extra cash, You order your coffee and sit out in the morning and relax while you get ready for the day ahead. And you can lie in the sun on you deck chair. In the evening before bed you can enjoy a romantic view with your sweetie, and just watch the world go by!

Dont listen to the you dont stay in your room crowd. The better the cabin the more likely that youre staying in youre room.

The main thing about getting an balcony, and it isnt that much expencier theese days, is what kind of weather you expect on youre cruise. If its gonna be warm and nice like in carebian or mediteranien in summer then I would definately recomend a balcony. Not much outclas standing outdoor and see the sun set or the sun raise steps away from your bed. Johan.

I always get a balcony, and have never regretted the bit of extra fare! Of course, I don't drink, so that expense isn't a factor in the overall price of a cruise for me.

You have to ask yourself, Do you like to hear the ocean? Would you use the balcony? If it is no to both of these then no it is not worth the extra money. By the way, I do indeed love to hear the ocean and I do enjoy using the balcony.

It all depends on where your cruise is going. If it is spending time in the Caribbean than I would not recommend betting a balcony, for most of the time you are on the ocean with little views of land. However, if you are going on an Alaska, Mediterranean, or any cruise close to major land masses, than trust me the balcony is worth it. Most of your time on a cruise is not spent in a room, most use it to sleep and do whatever. But it is nice to be alone on the balcony at night with a glass of wine looking at the views. Good Luck have a great cruise.

I believe that the length of the cruise affects this as well. On a 7-day cruise, there's certainly time to utilize your own balcony, especially on Sea Day mornings when you might choose to have breakfast brought to your cabin and enjoy a mimosa. On a 3-day cruise, a balcony is still very nice, but an oceanview still affords you the opportunity to see what's going on if you don't want to go up on deck. Also keep in mind that sometimes it's cheaper to book and then upgrade later.

We like having the balcony to enjoy some more private outside time. You can enjoy the deck without having a ton of other guests around you.

Notable..most of the balcony's only have two chairs and are not large or wide enough to lay out and sun. Only to sit or stand.

However, if you skip the balcony, save even more dollars and skip the oceanview and go with an interior cabin.

You usually only shower, change and sleep in the cabin.

Most frequent cruises love the balcony. We got an upgrade on the last cruise we took in September and wouldn't you know we forgot we had it for the sail away. We were up on deck standing! So we tried to make sure we used it in the morning when everyone was getting ready to eat our breakfast and coffee. But to tell ya the truth the balcony staterooms are considerably more, for me I'd rather get the inside and go more often. Like the other poster said your really are not in the room that much. As for hearing the ocean well probably not your pretty far up from the water line, but maybe that was where we were located. You can get really good pointers at a web site called cruisecritic.com.

TINKERTOY ..... the 1 & only
I have been on 20 cruises and the last 10 or so I have always gotten a balcony because after the first time I realized that it is the only way to go. And I have gotten a balcony and used it regardless of whether I was going to the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, Alaska or the Baltic. If yo8u get a balcony cabin you will use it and enjoy it.

Yes it cost a few dollars more but in my book its well worth the cost to have that private space that you can always retreat to, that place where you can go look outside without having to get fully dressed, that place where you can have breakfast room service on the balcony, that place where you can sit and enjoy the moonlight, and a hold host of other things. So get that balcony cabin once and see how YOU like it.

I love the balcony, but I can't always afford it. If you or your traveling partners smoke, you'll want a balcony. If you are more introverted and expect to be spending more time in your room than you'll want a balcony. If you are on a budget forgo the balcony and spend the extra cash on excursions or souvenirs. The balcony is one of those things that are really really nice to have, but not exactly worth the difference in the price.

Depends on how much more money you are talking about.
If you like the "fresh air" whenever you want then opt for the balcony.

Good luck!

Depends on whether you will use it.
Balconys are nice to relax and calm down. It also gives you extra drying space and makes the room look bigger (in case you are a bit claustrophobic). Besides that there is no distance. I know that I would rather have a balcony than a window but I would also rather have an interior than a window. You will regret having the window instead of the balcony because when you see the ocean you will want to go out and feel the warm air and breeze and hear the water.
It is worth going up

No. You should NOT be in your hotel room except to sleep. You pay a ton for your vacation and you need to be out, enjoying yourself. Your hotel room is merely a place to crash at night. You just want it to be clean and quiet.

Its probably not worth it. What are you going on the cruise for? Some people see cruises as transportation, to get them to the destinations they really want to see. Then if you might be in your room alot it could be worth it. Others see the cruise as the vacation. If you are looking at the ship as your vacation, its probably not worth it to get the balcony. Especially if it is your first cruise. Think about other things you could get on your trip for the money you would spend to upgrade, would you rather have the upgrade? Another thing you can do is a guaranteed room, where they guarantee you a room as good as what you pay for, but you have the possibility of getting upgraded, it might not happen, but people do get upgraded, and some times its a huge upgrade.

I don't think anyone on Yahoo answers knows you well enough to decide if it will be worth it for you. What is the price difference?
