Depends on the cruiseline!

* Carnival allows 1 bottle of wine or champagne per person and charges you $10-$15 to cork it.

* Norwegian Cruise Lines allows it as long as it's not on their wine list.

* Costa and Holland America allow wine with $15 corkage fee

* Crystal, Oceania, Windstar, and Disney allow you to bring liquor AND wine, as long as it's sipped in the privacy of your stateroom (wine is ok at the restaurant with a corkage fee)

* Princess allows wine ONLY if you bought it at a port. A corkage fee applies.

*Regent allows both liquor and wine, but their wine list is quite fabulous wine list, so leave it at home.

* Celebrity and Royal Caribbean, do NOT allow you to bring any type of alcohol-period.

This list was from a research I did awhile ago for a trip this year, but of course it's best if you call your cruiseline to check. :)

By the way, If you do purchase a bottle at a port your cruiseline will more than certainly require you to have them hold it until the end of the cruise.

For the most part the correct answer to this question is NO. Most lines do not allow you to bring alcohol from off the ship onboard. Alcohol purchased duty free in ports of call are normally taken from you when you return to the ship and returned to you at the end of the cruise.

Alcohol purchased in the shops onboard are typically held for you until the end of your cruise.

Check with your cruise line for more information because there are some exceptions to this. Some lines allow you to bring "fine wine" onboard, however they will charge you a corkage fee. However they don't define just what constitutes fine wine so we could be talking Thunderbird here... Other lines won't allow any alcohol from off the ship at all. There are also a few of the luxury lines that don't have any prohibition on alcohol brought from off the ship.

Lines have these prohibitions for several reasons - first and most obvious is because alcohol sales are huge profit makers for them and they don't want to give that up. Also, it's a way for ship's crew to monitor the alcohol intake of their passengers. They can cut you off if you are too intoxicated, on the other hand there are no such controls if you are drinking in your cabin (or smuggle it onboard).

Folks have successfully smuggled alcohol onboard for their cruise - my advice is to do so at your own risk. If you're caught the alcohol WILL be confiscated, however some lines may also decide to deny you boarding for attempting to smuggle alcohol onboard....

Up your Maslow
Sure you can.
They'll be happy to return them to you on day 8.
Better hope you don't have to go through customs with them, too.

If you're paying for an eight day cruise? Stick some way down deep in your luggage. You're in enough hazards already with food and water and running aground. No booze, no cruise or if they catch you and you really want to go and take your chances with your food and the Captain, ditch the booze. When at sea, Captain rules. Just try to sit at his or her table and eat what Captain eats. Good luck and have a good time.
