A hoodie and a jacket. I never knew how cold it can get at night, and how it rains sometimes in the caribbean on certain islands (espeically the rain-forest ones)

A spare swim suit. Horrible things happen sometimes to the first one.

Sea sickness meds. I've been sailing all my life, but for some reason, some mornings I wake up on a cruise and I need to take one of those little life savors. I think it's cause you get disoriented in the night or something, but this is a BIG thing I'm glad we had many times.

Sneakers. Some shore excersions require them, and some ports can be a pit, err, less than ideal for open toed shoes.

Big Spray. It's good when your going someplace jungle like. You don't want to be scratching and looking like a pepperoni pizza the rest of your vacation. There are some that are sunscreen and big spray combined.

Tampons. They're kind of expensive in the store for what you get, and they aren't the best quality. Not something you want to be dealing with in a bikini on a crowded beach ful of people you have to see for like 10 days. >_< (bad memories i tell you)

Hand Sanitizer. You don't know where peoples hands have been. I carried a little bottle with me in my bag and kept a big one in my room. I good rule, works 99% of the time to keep you away from common cruise illnesses: before you touch your eyes your mouth or your nose, or anything that touches your eyes or your mouth or your nose, put the hand sanitizer on. You don't want your vacation ruined by a sickness. It sucks hard core.

THINGS NOT TO BRING:

* Towel (they provide them, and they weigh a lot and take up a lot of room in your luggage. Remember, a bag must be under 50 pounds when you fly or you get charged)
* DVDs (only a few cruises have players, and they take up space. Besides, most cruises have movie channels that play movies non-commercial all day 24/7)
* Lots of cash money or forign money (there is a place on the ship that can give you cash when you need it and for wherever you need it)

Hope this helps! :)

A travel umbrella or parka. The one time I didn't pack it my friends and I got caught in pouring down rain in the Caymans.

Hello2u
multiple outfits since it got hot and sweaty alot. sunglasses. cash.

My first cruise I did not pack my sneakers. I was devastated because going ashore sometimes requires them. Flip flops aren't very comfortable when you're trying to negotiate cobble stone streets or rough sidewalks, which is often the case in some of these port cities. So, brinig sneakers and sunscreen!! don't forget the sun screen!!!

We just got back and my husband got sick and we didn't bring Imodium...when we went to the doctor on board he wanted to quarantine him for 24 hours...that just wasn't an option on a 3 day cruise, and they had nothing on board to help in the shops....he suffered for 24 hours , we now have will never leave home without it

Dramamine. If the water is rough the ship will run out fast!

DVD's. After dinner, sometimes I just like to chill in the room, and the rooms (at least on Holland America) all have DVD players. It was a nice way to relax before bed.

I'm glad I pack my own snorkel gear and underwater cameras as they are about twice as expensive on board as you could have gotten them at the drug store or walmart before you went.

Like the other poster said, a rain jacket.

I always pack bug spray and I've never needed it yet but I'll still pack it for that one and only time. And a light weight hoodie. If you go snorkeling, after 2 hours in the water you are freezing even if it's a hot day. So afterwards I like to throw on something warm. Plus if you go to the Bahamas not in summer it can be cold. St Thomas and everywhere was hot in December but the Bahamas were quite chilly and I was glad I had a light weight hoodie.

One thing I always pack and use is a lanyard (badge holder whatever). They will punch a hole on it at the pursers and it's easy to carry around that way. I also always pack a baby backpack. Like those in the 90s that everyone had and they still sell at Nike, Addias or Reebok stores. It's lightweight so that I can throw any souvenirs in the back and carry my glass around. Refills with your souv glass are about $2 cheaper.

Medicines and a pair of fat pants. It always seems on night my stomach is killing me and if I'd just brought some antacid.... Or one night my stomach is blah and I can't fit the dress or don't want to wear a dress. If you bring a pair of fat pants you can just dress more casually that night at dinner.

A lot of people carry their own towel. Yes they provide towels but if you misplace it, it's like $20-25 you owe the ship. And I saw people stealing other people's Carnival towels. It was like one big game of musical chairs. If you bring your own towel, it's likely to still be on the chair a few minutes later if you get up to get a burger or a drink. I never have but I do guard my ship provided towel carefully. Plus you can get one of those 7 ft towels for like $10 at Target and they are great for laying out on.

Several one dollar bills. If you are going to a more 3rd world country, there will be people selling bracelets and necklaces for $1 or $2. But those little kids may look cute and innocent but they aren't going to give you change for a $5. Plus it's handy for tipping the porters.
