Is this a free cruise or a clever scam? |
Normally I roll my eyes at these questions but now have one of my own.
My friend got a call at home on New Years Day from someone claiming to be from a well known cruise line congratulating her on a win of a free cruise. The caller knew that the friend and her husband had entered a draw on a cruise they took in January 2006 and said that entries not drawn in that year are carried over to the next year and the next. We have researched online but have found nothing to suggest that this is a scam and, of course, the friend is smart - they haven't asked for personal information but she's also not giving it. Has anyone heard of Cruise lines doing this? |

Usually, if it sounds too good to be true, it is. The problem? Cruise lines are desperate for passengers now because of the slow down in the economy. So it actually does sound realistic. I've never heard of this kind of thing happening in reality, but I'd call the cruise line's main office or a travel agent to find out if it's a scam or not. |

This may be legitimate, but to be sure your friend should contact the cruise line directly. By "well-known" I certainly hope you mean a something like Carnival or Princess or the others. I always enter drawings for cruises, and hope someday to win one. HOWEVER, if the call is from Imperial Majesty, that is clearly a scam and should be completely ignored! If the call was legitimate and from a reputable cruise line, the cruise line should be sending papers to your friend and should NOT ask for personal information -- a cruise line you have already travelled with already knows that stuff. |

If it is from a company with the name majesty in it, then it is a scam. It's a filthy, old ship where they push, push, push alcohol on you till your sick of it. The cruise ends up costing you all kinds of money. If someone actually wins a free cruise(it is possible, but not likely), you will get paper work and more then just one phone call. |

Now now, I won a free all expenses paid trip to Cancun this summer for doing next to nothing. It was all legit and freestyle so there were no meetings, etc. So, you never know! |
