i seriously doubt it. Ensenada is a popular cruise destination, so one would imagine that the local authorities would really be on patrol. I also agree with the comment about the drug lords and international investigation because if they go around shooting at tourists, they would face more "heat" and the entire world will know about it. It doesnt make sense for them to do it...

dont worry about it, you will probably be really safe...just use basic common safety sense (like the ones that you use in downtown NYC or something)

Don't worry one bit. The ports that the ships stop at are safe otherwise they would not stop there. For example, one of the cruises that I was going to go on was going to Haiti and I was worried that it was going to be a bad place, but the ship has its own private island that it stops at and lets people off. It is very safe. Just don't do something you wouldn't do as if you were in the United States. Have fun =]

Mexico's tourist areas and cruise ship ports are very well policed and are safe. Mexico is a large country, and the drug-related violence is concentrated in a few places - mostly on the US border cities like Juarez and Tijuana. And even in the more dangerous parts of Mexico, tourists are almost never targeted - gangs know that violence against tourists would bring an immediate and massive crackdown from the authorities.

Attend to Ports of Call meeting/lecture that is offered. It is a little dry, but that is when Carnival Crew members fill you in on which parts of each port are safe, and what you need to look out for and/or avoid for your safety. Remember, they want ALL guests to be 100% safe, because they want happy customers to return.

Also, if you are really worried, just book a tour through Carnival. If you book it through them, they've got your back. This is what I do in any potentially "dangerous" ports.

On what are you basing this information? Did you have a dream one night? Or are you just being totally stupid?

It doesn't matter where you are or what you do, if your stupid you can get into trouble.
The areas around where the ship docks are well patrolled, just pay attention and don't walk into the bad areas of town.
The excursions are 99.9% safe. Just do as the guides ask and don't walk away from your groups.
When you go ashore don't take huge wads of money, $10-$20 in each pocket, when you want to pay for something take as little money out as possible. Leave your Gucci hand bag at home don't wear every piece of jewellery you own. Be polite, you don't need to kiss any backsides, but don't be rude.
We enjoy cruising, If you follow a few precautions you will too.

the tourists areas are very safe. that is mexico's main source of income, so they make sure their tourists are safe. mexico is very beautiful and you would be missing out by staying on the boat. just be sure to book your excursions through the ship.

I was in Ensenada last fall on a cruise and they told us not to wander around town, but stay at the port which is safe and well guarded. We took a tour which was booked through the ship. This is the safest thing to do. I just would not go out on my own now a days. The port is safe, but the town is NOT!. Even our tour guide told us this. You are safe to take one of the ships shore excursions though. They will keep you safe.

Use your best judgment but if you do get off don't piss any locals off or you may be the next headline news.
