The least expensive cruise line you can go on is Carnival. But here are some other suggestions.
1. go to cruise line web sites and look for their specials or the low price cruises. The lines will list all of their cruise itineraries by date and some dates are much cheaper than others. For example, we just booked a Royal Caribbean cruise that was $950 for a 7 day cruise and an outside cabin. The same cruise other weeks was hundreds more.
2. The least expensive cabins on all cruises are the inside cabins. So look to get one of these if you don't have the money for an outside or balcony cabin. The inside cabins are about the same size, if not exactly, as the outside/balcony cabins. Or, see if you can get an outside/balcony and an inside right across the hallway from it.
3. a 5-day cruise will be cheaper thana 7-day cruise.
4. Save money by driving to the cruise port. I have done this many time to Miami and Ft Lauderdale. They have covered parking garages and security at the port. Parking is about $12 to $14 a day, but for seven days that's cheaper and less inconvenient than flying and dealing with airport security adn transfer from the airport to ship and back. We generally drive a couple hours from Miami the day before the cruise, then have a short leisurely drive to the port on cruise day and get there about noon.
I do recommend Royal caribbean, NCL and Princess, or Disney, over Carnival because it IS the budget cruise line. |

Check out www.vacationstogo.com to compare a variety of cruise providers.
Carnival is very budget friendly.
Also consider taking a 4 or 5 day cruise. You get the experience but can save some dollars. |

We took the Disney Cruise over the summer. I can't speak for the price as my inlaws picked up the tab! If it is in your budget, I highly recommend it, especially with the children. There was no gambling, which was nice. We had 8 children ranging in age from 6 to 15 and they all loved it. They went as far as to say they would rather do a cruise again over Disney itself. We also had two families with no children on the trip who had a fabulous time. My inlaws have been on Royal Caribbean, Disney, Carnival and Princess and are considering Disney this spring as their next vacation, just the two of them. I do recommend staying away from Carnival, that is more for the young adults. You can get some discount rates to fly into Sanford Airport near Orlando and then catch the cruise bus at the Orlando Airport. Cheaper and much easier to navigate than to navigate the Orlando Airport. Excursions are not what they are cracked up to be. If you stop at Nassau, don't waste your time. We did not like it at all with the children. |

Try this site: iBtraveling.com so you can compare a bunch of sites at once.
I'd suggest buying some snorkel gear for the whole family here before you go, so that way you won't have to book an expensive excursion when you get there. Just grab a taxi when you get off the ship and ask the taxi driver to take you to a nice spot for snorkeling and a time to pick you up. Give him a good tip. They need the cash. |

We went on a Carnival Cruise (Triumph) last April with our family of 5. We booked a "quint" room. It was an inside cabin,no window. The room was small but it was a little bigger than our friend's standard inside cabin for their family of 4. The room had a queen bed, 2 drop down bunks & a trundle-type bed on the floor. (smaller mattress that was good for a child-our 5 year old slept on it). We hardly spent any time in our cabin so it was fine. Just showered, changed and slept there! We had a great time!! |
