Mediterranean Cruise?

I'm taking a cruise on Royal Caribbean's Voyager of the Seas going to Barcelona, Nice, and three cities in Italy. Staying a few days afterward on our own in Barcelona. Has anyone else been on this cruise? Any pros/cons I should know about?

We took the Mediterranean/Greek Isles cruise on the Brilliance of the Seas in May 2006. Our ports were: Barcelona, Ville Franche (Nice/MonteCarlo)Florence/Pisa, Rome, Naples/Pompeii, Kusadusi (Ephesus), Turkey, Athens/Corinth, Greece, Mykonos, Santorini. It was wonerful.

We did not have this problem, but were well-warned about pickpockets in Rome, Florence and Naples. Carry your personal belongings in front of you, never on your back or side. We had a local in Naples communicate to is in with hand gestures to keep our camera in front of us.

Take good walking shoes. I don't know which shore excursions you are taking, but you will walk alot in Rome, Florence, and if you visit ruins in Ephesus, Pompeii, or Corinth.

Take lots of pictures.

Jewelry are good items to purchase for gifts. They are pretty inexpensive in Mykonos and Turkey and Florence. They don't take up much space and don't weigh much for the flight home. Thimbles are good, too.

Most of the vendors take US dolars. Watch your exchange rates for Euros. It is more expensive on the ship. All the ports took Euros except for Turkey. They took US dollars, though. Almost everyone took Visa or Mastercard.

If you post some more specific questions about the ports you are going to viist, I'll be glad to post a response.

What a beautiful Itinerary.
You will enjoy every minute. I just wish you had longer in each
city. I'm glad you added a few days on in Barcelona. To save a little money, you may want to do some shore excursions on your own. You can pre-arrange these before you go. And plan to eat in 'local European restaurants,' not the 'touristy' ones. Ask the locals for recommendations. Bring a good guide book like Fodors or Frommers. And most importantly, Enjoy the journey!

Royal Caribbean is a great line and you get a lot for your money. Voyager of the Seas is one of their nicer ships. I would say the food is some of the best you will find on Royal Caribbean and the entertainment is also really good. The particular cruise you are taking is amazing, the ports are great, you will have a wonderful time.

As far as things to be aware, there really isn't too much. If you are looking for an adult-only environment, realize that Royal Caribbean is pretty popular with kids, so there may be more on board. Being one of the lower priced lines, with lots of programs for kids, it is popular for familes. That is a benefit, of course, if you are taking your family. Other than that, just be aware of an extra charges, drinks, etc. The soda fountain package is usually a good dea for most people. Remember you will have an onboard charge account and what you spend can add up quickly if you don't pay attention. So try to keep a running bill or get a printout so you know how much you have spent.

The cruise is great, you will have a really nice time. Here is a link to some reviews and a lot more information on Voyager: http://cruisecritic.com/reviews/review.cfm?ShipID=105

I hope this helps!
