Men's Apparel for Captain's Dinners? |
What happens if I do not have a dinner jacket? I do, though, have black dress slacks, a white shirt and bowtie. Could I get away with that? Would the white bowtie be too much? Please, help me out. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. |

It all depends on how formally everyone else is going to be. I think you would look dapper in the outfit you described, however, if the affair is black tie, you Must have a jacket. The good news is that many places have really good Goodwill and second hand clothing places that you may be able to find a very nice, even new, dinner jacket. You can always rent too! You can call the place where the party is taking place and ask them what the attire will be. I wish you the best of luck, dear. Nana |

Some cruises you don't need to wear black tie, some you are able to make do with wearing a smart suit, check with your cruise line. You may also want to find out if your cruise lines hires dinner suits on-board, as some do have this facility. |

It is definitely suggested to have a dinner jacket for the formal nights but lets be honest here, I have been on 3 different cruises and nobody was ever asked to leave for not wearing a jacket. And some people were more inappropriately dressed and never got the boot. You will probably be in the minority but I can gurantee you that you will not be the only one without a jacket. Do what you feel most comfortable with and you will be fine. The outfit you described above sounds like it would work. |

Tux or suit required on any cruise I have ever been on. You would where a suit more than you think if you buy one. |

Well on some ships they have a rental suits. Try a tie instead of a bow tie. A tie looks more dreesy. |

You diffently need a dinner jacket, the frown down on it if you do not have one. The bowtie, to me would be to much but there are those that wear full-blown TUXs. The whole ten Yards. It also depends on your cruise line and length of cruise. Go to the local consignment shops you can get really nice ones cheap. The link below should help. |

That is fine. My suggestion is buy a dinner jacket before you get on the ship. Or rather a couple months before you travel. Everything else is fine. No jeans, no tsshirts. That's the imortant thing. Also no shorts in the dining room. I went on a cruise in 11th grade for senior trip to the bahamas for 5 days may 9-13th 2005. |

You will need a dinner jacket. This is a requirement for that dinner.
My suggestions for not having one...
Rent one from a formal shop. The cruise line will have a formal company that will have it delievered and picked up on the ship. Contact the cruise line for that info. Or go to a local shop.
Go buy a nice second hand jacket. As long as it is nice no one will know the difference. |
