Mexico (Swine Flu) Related question about my cruise this May?

Okay, so I was planning on going on a Carnival cruise with me, my mom, dad, and sister. We were to aboard in San Diego. Then we'd go to an island called Catalina Island, and then go to Ensenada, Mexico.

I've been hearing that they aren't allowing cruises to go to Mexico and they might cancel our cruise because of the Swine Flu outbreak. Is this true? I was looking so forward to it...

Additional Details
*Ensenada, Mexico

Cruise ships never cancel a cruise. It cost them too much. If you read the fine print in the contract they can take you anywhere. Currently all cruises have canceled stops in Mexico. There is no telling how long that will last. Technically due to the Jones Act they must stop in a foreign country but it will probably just be a maintenance stop with no one being allowed off.

If you check their website your cruise is listed. You should just be visiting Catalina, but not Ensenada.

i think this is the right answer for you.

No Carnival cruises and many other cruises including airports are not going to mexico so you guys might want to reschedule your trip

When are you going? The swine flu is really winding down so if it is later on in the month you may get to go anyway. Of course you should always make sure to wash your hands frequently and use the hand sanitizers when getting on and off the ship.

What is happening is the cruises that were suppose to go to Ensenada are just going to Catalina now.

When you look at cruise critic, it looks like Ensenada is really a nothing port. Cruise ships throw on these nothing ports so you get more ports like private islands and stuff but really there is little there. The only reason I think they go there is to honor the Jones Act. You won't be missing much.

Only a couple Carnival cruises have been canceled. Just the ones to Cozumel and back. All others have alternate ports substituted or just one fewer port of call. That's what you have. You have the option though to cancel your cruise if you really don't like your itinerary change (like the cruise going to Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas that's going to go to Seattle instead). You can take credit for the cruise and take a cruise in the next 2 years. But most people are going to be very happy with the itinerary changes. I bet you will still go on your cruise and have an amazing time.

Usually they just change the ports and you go somewhere else. They probably won't cancel your cruise.

Time travler
A ship that is registered from a foreign port(all of Carnivals ships are as well as most cruise lines) must, by law go to a foreign port, so it has to go to Ensenada. But because of the flu outbreak, most likely, you will not be allowed to go on shore. The cruise ships just calls it a business stop. But no big deal as Ensenenda is not an exciting place. Oh, the law is called the Jones act in case you wondered. My guess is your cruise will not be canceled at all. There is no reason to do so. Enjoy your cruise and don't worry.
