My 10 year old son and I are going on a cruise to Alaska, What are the best tours to take on land?

if your around anchorage, a train ride from anchorage to fairbanks on the alaska railroad. see beautiful sights, rivers, waterfalls wildlife, denali natl park/mt mckinley, experience the "last frontier". portage glacier tour, planeride over glaciers, visit towns of seward, homer or valdez, in alaska, theres more than you can do in a lifetime.
p.s. for the ignorant one.. alaska is NOT COLD in the summer as a matter of fact places in the interior such as fairbanks can reach 90+ in july and aug.. in winter the interior gets intensly cold, but many winter days in anchorage are milder than chicago because of the warm japan current that flows into the gulf of alaska and the mountains to the north that block and hold it south. and the farther north u go the longer the daylight until you reach the artic circle where it doesn't get dark at all in the summer. instead of the sun rising and setting it goes around you in a circle. enjoy your trip, u will love alaska...

It really depends which cruise line you will be going on, where you will be going and how much you want to spend.

My two personal favorites are the train tours that are offerred and then the helicopter tours. I think both, especially the helicopter tour, would really be enjoyed by a 10 year old boy.

Really, they are all great. I would suggest looking over them with your son and letting him pick out his favorites. That way, you both can be happy and he will feel good knowing he was included in the planning.

My favorite shore excursions in Alaska were--helicopter onto a glacier, the Raptor Center in Sitka, and whale watching. He also might like to try his hand at some mushing--I think they do it on the glaciers in the summer.

I would pick anywhere else with a 10 year old child. It is way too cold. There are so many other beautiful and warm places to visit, why Alaska?? How about a fun cruise or Disney?

I don't know personally, but my brother and his wife just went on an Alaskan cruise for their honeymoon and took the Tramway up the mountain in Juneau. They said it was the coolest thing they have ever done. They could see everything from there, and even got to see some bears.
