My faimly is going on a cruise and I am takin a friend. What do we need to prove she is with us??

the easiest way is for her to go to the port with you and board at the same time, as her name should be on the ticket information, she will need, photo id, passport/birth certificate (depending on when you are going and where passport is best)

as I do not know what Line you are using I can tell you what Carnival gives us, they mail on ticket packet or you can print them on-line now, and it has the names of all who are going on one page. the 4 of us just go in together and we have no problems. when we get to the desk we all have all our info ready and they look at it give it back and send us on quickly. It is really easy.

if your friend is under age a letter from her parents may be needed, call the line you are with directly to make sure

I am assuming that you and your friend are both under the age of 18. If that is the case, then your friend's parents need to have a power of attorney letter written that essentially gives your friend permission to travel with your parents, and gives your parents the right to seek medical treatment, etc. The letter must be notarized!

Essentially it should go something like this........

We, (Insert both parent's names) residing at (Insert address), here by grant permission for our son/daughter, (insert child's name), (D.O.B. (insert date of birth)), to travel with (insert your parent's names) residing at (insert your home address), to (location) between the dates of (insert travel dates). They have our permission to act our surrogate while she is in their custody. This includes, but is not limited to seeking medical care, hospitalization, and dental care. We have medical insurance through (insert company name). Affixed is to this release is a copy of her insurance card. It is also a good idea to affix a copy of her parent's driver's licenses to the back of the letter.

She will need written permission and release forms, and her birth certificate and or passport, and a student ID, just be on the safe side, and I think thats it. We almost had the same situation a few years back, but the friend decided not to go. Anyhow, call the cruise line directly and make sure that I didnt leave anything out.

I'd recommend a power of attorney, signed by your friend's parents, authorizing your parents to take her on the cruise and to do anything they would need to do as her parent (mostly for getting urgent or emergency medical care). The problem with that is you have to get an attorney or paralegal to do one for you, and that can be costly. Your other option would be to contact the cruise line and ask if a letter of permission signed by your friend's parents would be OK.
