Confuzzled |
My friend is coming on a cruise(royal caribbean) with my family and i.? |
what does she need? we're going from cali to mexico.
since her parents arent coming, what documents does she have to bring?
she lives with stepdad/mom, and has a passport.
so her last name is different from the people she lives with, but her dad's out of the continent, so its hard to get a signature from them.
what documents does she have to bring, and is there an outline of a permission paper?
btw, we're going on the royal caribbean. |

You will need a notarised permission form signed by your friend's parents and notarised
you will find a copy of the form at the link:
http://adisneycruise.disney.go.com/media/dcl_v0206/en_US/media/myCruise/MinorAuthorization.pdf
Edit: this note is for the Disney Line, but something similar would be suitable for RCCL. |

Your parents will need a letter of permission from her parents to take her out of the U.S. It needs to be signed by both parents and notarized. She had to have signature of both parents to get passport...so her Mom must have a way....or she has sole custody. Read section on MINORS under "Entry Requiremeents on 2nd site. |

The first thing that your friend will need is either a passport and then she will need you do need a permission slip signed by your parent(s). This is from the Royal Caribbeans' web site:
" Q: What if I'm traveling with a minor and I'm not the parent or legal guardian?
A: Adults who are not the parent or legal guardian of a minor traveling with them must present an original notarized letter signed by the child's parent(s), authorizing the adult to take the child on the specific cruise, supervise the child and allow emergency medical treatment to be administered.
Please note: An individual's age on the date of sailing determines his or her status for the entire cruise vacation. Royal Caribbean International does not accept reservations for student groups. Please consult a travel agent for Royal Caribbean's group policies."
Royal Caribbean does not have a form to use for the permission slip so just have your friend's parents write a letter to Royal Caribbean, including the child's name and date of birth and the parents names and addresses and phone numbers. Then have it notarized and I suggest mailing a copy to RC before the cruise to that if it needs revision there will be time to get it done. Then bring the original with the passport to checkin at the cruise terminal. |

From what I've read, a minor traveling with an adult who is not a relative needs a notarized permission letter from both parents to travel out of the country. Don't know how a step-parent fits into this. Best thing to do would be to call Royal Caribbean and ask them what documentation they require.
Later: I did a search at CruiseCritic.com and found this website that has the info you need: globaltrektravel.com/minortravelforms
The airline and/or cruiseline may or may not ask for such a form, but it is required by the State Department, evidently. You should also have the child's health insurance information, just in case. |
