My wife and I are thinking about going on a cruise, but she gets seasick on small boats. How are big boats?

The last time I took my wife on a boat, it was a 31' catamaran in the Belizean reef. Of course, it had that smooth rocking motion, and my wife spent most of the time underneath puking? How is the motion on cruise ships? I'd prefer answers from people who have experienced this their selves.

I would suggest Royal Caribbean newer ships, such as the Freedom of the Seas or Liberty of the Seas. Theses ships are huge. There one of the biggest cruise ships at sea, and there even coming out with a bigger one called the Oasis of the Sea. The problem with that right now is its so expensive. I was worried about this myself, but when I went on the Freedom of the Seas I didn't feel a thing. Its like your in a hotel. Sometimes you don't even realize your on a ship until you go outside and watch the ocean. The new ships have a ice skating rink, rock climbing wall, and so much more. Here are some pics of the ships. Oasis has not come out yet but will be coming out soon. If u have anymore questions feel free to email me at djd832001@yahoo.com

You can reduce the change of your wife getting sea sick by selecting one of the larger ships and avoiding certain sailing months due to weather.

Ships over 100 tons provide very smooth rides. The Conquest class ships and above from the Carnival line provide a very smooth ride.

You should also avoid sailing during deep hurricane season. The season is officially June-October. However, we have sailed in the early weeks of June without any issues.

Also, we have experienced some bad weather outside of hurricane season for December sailings. No so much in the Gulf or the Caribbean but the bad weather was near the port when we returned home.

Non-drowsy Dramamine is great. Start taking it about 1 hour before sailing.

The boat are very big and spacey and vast but you usually get the motion sickness on the last day of the cruise

JUST MAKE SURE TO BUY MOTION SICKNESS BANDS THEY REALLY HELP!!

My parents went on a cruise and they didnt get seasick once. Expecially my mom because she usually gets seasick on boats, but she didnt on the cruise. If the water is not too choppy then you should be fine. Just make sure you take dramamine everyday in the morning in case you get seasick because once you get seasick the medicine wont help. Have fun =]

Honestly,
I never get sea sick, but we went on a cruise through Carnival during the winter months and the boat steadily rocked. I just felt a little nauseated (mixed with alchohol wasnt too great either). But a lady gave me the patch to put behind my ear and I was perfect from then on. I have been on 2 more cruises since then (Both summer) and It was great! My little brother gets easily sick but he didnt. I suggest taking a cruise! They are tons of fun!

Unless you hit bad weather and rough seas, she should be fine on a cruise ship - even the smaller ones.

When you choose a cabin, you should look at the center of the ship (both ways - by decks above and below - and a mid ship location)

Due to her past experience, she might not be too keen on going on a cruise, but if unsure, she could take a meclizine about one hour before sailing, when the ship first leaves port - and then she will see how calm the ride is and that she does not need any pills.

cruise ships are huge.most of the time you will foret that your even on a boat. if she does et seasick, they have gum that you can take that make you feel better. also taking a walk helps alot to.

cruise ships are huge. they are like floating resorts. i have been on 12 and have only gotten a little sea sick once ever and that was in pretty rough seas. we were on the outskirts of a bad storm. i do sometimes feel motion while laying in bed, but not enough to make you sick. the cabin stewards will give you dramimine in case you need it. she should be fine.

I have been on 30+ cruises and I only recall there being one or two where there was enough motion to really be aware that you were on a ship. The are so big and have great stabalizing equipment. Have her get the patch from her doctor just to be extra safe.

penguinash2010
If you go on a fancy cruise through Disney or even that Carnival or whatever, they are HUGE. They have beaches on the ship and actual dinner resorts and everything.

A cruise ship is absolutely nothing like a 31' boat. Most of the time you don't feel a thing. The only time I felt any motion was lying on the bed or sitting quiet like at dinner or in the theater. Then that motion is more like lying in a hammock with a very slight breeze outside. A few people do get sea sick on a cruise, but not many. If motion sickness is a problem, you can get a patch from your doctor or take some Boninie, or even wear those sea bands on your wrists. That is what my husband used, but now he is so use to it, he doesn't need those either.

You will probably feel motion only on choppy waters. Cruise ships are better than smaller boats. She may still feel kind of queasy, but there are meds for that. Actually I've heard the sea sick pressure point wrist bands work well. I've been on several cruises and only once have I seen anyone really going green because of the choppy waters.

thresher
Go to the Doc they will help with sea sickness.
Look it up on the net.
