Need some help with booking an Alasksan Cruise!!?

We are a group of 4 (me, my boyfriend, my best friend and her boyfriend). We are all mid-twenties and looking to go on our first Alaskan cruise. We've talked to a lot of people regarding they're suggestions, but we can always get more feedback. :)

We want to go late May 2009...inside passage...and have a budget of $2,000 total (including aifare from Los Angeles, cruise and tips).

Specifications:
-Ocean View cabin
-Good food/some luxury
-Ship that is less than 10 years old
-Age of ship (we aren't partiers, but we also don't want to be on ships where the average age is over 65)
-Great ports of call

We've heard that our best bet are Princess and Royal Caribbean? What do you you all think? Please share if you've been on either. Thanks so much!

I have cruised to Alaska over 20 times. With your budget a 7 day cruise is your best choice. I have sailed with both Princess and Norwegian both great lines and good prices. An Ocean View cabin will cost you more than your budget allows plus, to really see the Amazing Scenery and Wildlife you best to see more on deck. All lines have bars but, there are plenty of places to go away from anyone who may get loud. All lines do their best to provide their guests with great food. Both Norwegian and Princess have good buffets that allow you to dress casual and sit where you want. Buffet on both have big windows so as you eat you can also take in the scenery.
Ports of call. All lines pretty much stop at the same ports.
Ketchikan usually your first port of call.
Juneau - capitol of Alaska
Skagway
One day at 1 of the glaciers and maybe one other port.
This cruise from the moment you depart until your cruise ends you are able to view great sites, also you will be traveling between 2 bodies of land so the water will be calm.
One other point to consider about cabin choice - how much time are you actually going to spend there?
ENJOY.
You can just type in each one of these ports of call and get an idea what may interest you.
Also visit their sites and compare; NCL.com or Princess.com

I have cruised with Princess to Alaska and it was the best, but I did a land tour first. Because you want to go late may, you probably will not encounter a lot of kids. They go, of course after school is out. You will be with a nice mix of ages on your cruise, but there will be more over fifty then under 50 years old. I just finished an Hawaiian cruise and we had a nice mix, but it had more seniors then I usually see. Princess is an excellent choice. They do a wonderful job with great food, plenty of luxury and some of the best ports of calls and shore excursions anywhere. Most all there ships are under 10 years old. The one I was just on, the golden was built in 2001 and they are already doing a makeover on this ship. With Princess, nothing gets shabby. You can't go wrong with Princess.

These cruise lines might be out of you price range, but look at companies like Lindblad, and Cruise West. The ships may be older then 10 years, most of the passengers may be older(they almost always are since they have time/money), but if you are more interested in seeing Alaska up close, and more wildlife. Its worth a look.

Princess and RC are definitely your best choices. They are very similar in what they offer (you will find similar amenities, ports of call, size of ship, food, etc) so it will probably come down to availability and price for the week you want to go.

I've sailed Radiance and Rhapsody of the Seas; Radiance is a bigger, better, newer ship but it's easier to sail on Rhapsody because she does round trip cruises from Seattle, meaning airfare is less expensive and you don't have to worry about making it to Seward (which is pretty annoying to do).

You will find that the average age on any cruise to Alaska is older than that on cruises to the Carribbean; however, there are plenty of people of all ages and activities to keep them all happy. I'm 23 and went on my honeymoon to Alaska.

Keep in mind with your ship age requirement that some ships are older but have been remodeled; it's more important to look at the remodel date than the built date. The cruise lines tend to run their older, smaller ships in Alaska because it's not as popular a spot, so finding a ship that's less than 10 years old can be difficult.

I've never been to a port that wasn't a lot of fun; I think the more important thing to focus is on are the excursions- I highly recommend whale watching, helicopter rides, and dog sledding... they tend to be more expensive but definitely worth it. Regardless of what you choose you will definitely have fun. Alaska is my favorite vacation spot.

Went on Princess. Very happy with everything.

Average age is going to higher than you want as it's the older people who have "spare" money to indulge on this sort of trip.

Extend your ship age to 20 as the Sun Princess we went on was launched in 92 I think, but is superb and you certainly get your good food/luxury!

Look at vacagtionstogo.com for good pricing nearer the time. Just got a junior suite with balcony on a 9 day Mediterranean cruise for $840 (no flights) in 3 weeks time!

I would suggest a land view cabin over the ocean view cabin. Staring at the the flat blue is fun for about 5 minutes, but all the interesting stuff happens on the land view, the glaciers and what not. I think your cruiselines of choice are good for what you are looking for.

It looks like you've got your stuff together. Good luck and enjoy.

With oil prices way down lets hope that the cruise lines start to cancel the fuel surcharge. This will lower your cruise fare for next May.
Check tons of sites for the best fare, some offer free on board and free prepaid gratuities.

Good luck!
