Never been on a cruise, are they scary?

I'm going on a cruise next week, and I want to know if they are scary. I have bad anxiety, will this be affected? I need to know everything anyone can tell me about them!

By the way, it's Norwegian Gem, and we are traveling to St. Thomas, Tortolla, Barbados, Antiqua, and St Maarten, so if you know anything about those places that would help too!

There is nothing scary about being on a cruise ship. The only scary thing is getting hooked on cruising and not wanting to go on any other type of holiday.
You will have the time of your life. You will never be on another holiday where you are treated so well, have so much to do, or so little to do, it's your choice.
You will be on a great ship, meet many new people and have a great time. If you like shopping and looking for bargains you are going to some great places.

Wow, are you lucky or what? Crusing is totally fun- lots to do & great food, anywhere anytime. You can get a massage if you're feeling anxious, but there's nothing to be worried about. Norwegian is a reputable company. If you get seasick, you can use those patches you place behind your ear, but usually the ships's stabilizers work really well to keep the ship from rocking. Cruising is like being on a really fancy floating hotel, nightclub, theater, etc. Have a ball. Wish I could go again.

Of course it will be OK. Modern BIG ships are so bad the weather/swell etc hardly affects them as they have stabilisers.

It's like being in a big 4 star hotel where the scenery is moved for you each day!

Scary? No way! Cruises are terrific fun. You will have the best time of your life. If you are worried about seasickness, visit your doctor before you go for a patch. They work great.

You'll love it. Go to cruise critics and you can read all about the vessel AND the destinations.

Getting more info will help you feel more confident.

Have fun!

Dude! I just got off the Norwegian Gem last saturday! my family and i did a new years cruise and we had a blast!
no they're definitely not scary. :P
there was only one rocky day, but honestly, the ship is so big, and so well equipped with stabilizers that you can hardly feel it anyway.
if you do get bothered by the rocking though, go to some of the lower decks.
if you have any specific questions about the ship, not the stops (my cruise went to different bahamian locations so i can't help with that) message me!

If you have picked the right cruise you'll have a blast.
Different cruise lines cater to different types of people.
If you have a problem with sea sickness go to the drug store and buy wrist bands. they are elastic type bands with a little bump in the band. you place the bump where the directions tell you and you should be fine. My wife use to use them and always took spares, to give away(they're cheap). But now she doesn't need them at all. Make sure you read the news letter that's slipped under your door every day, it tells of things that will happen the next day Have Fun

I've been on 6 and even if the water is rough you're still VERY safe on a modern ship. It's been a few years but go to "Top of the Mountain" in St. Thomas if the weather is clear, terrific view and great Banana daiquiri's too! Megan's Bay is heavenly. A quick trip to St. John will give you beautiful quiet beaches. The submarine is also fun and very safe. I've been on Norwegian 4 times. We usually skip the extra cost of the nicer restaurants, we don't eat enough anyway. Look to sit in the same section in the dining room and try to get the same waiter. You get better service and they can be helpful about your destinations. And tip good service, that "tips included" thing, well, it's just ok for them but it can be money well spent. Go nuts! Get a good sunburn for me!!!!

I went on a med cruise on the Independence of the Seas in July and we saw the Norwegian Gem at most stops. Looks ratherrr nice (: I didn't find it scary, there's so much to do on the ships and the places sound good too. I guess it depends how old you are to what you'd have to be scared of?
Have fun (: There's nothing to worry about, honest.

pms2go
you may want to get a motion sickness patch to calm you down.

Cruises are fun, until you hit a bad storm at sea. I went to the Bahamas and we encountered a bad storm. We went in early spring time. It was scary because the lightning was hitting the water and we were not allowed outside on the decks. Practically, everyone got seasick because of the rocking of the ship. Check the weather reports before you go. This was springtime. So you should be ok with it being winter. Go and have fun!! It will be a great.
