celebrity is good for adults who want to relax w/out kids but with the regular cruising style.
norweigan is good if you dont want an organized vacation that just goes with the flow. (no formal nights too)

My wife and I are both Certified Travel Consultant Specialists, and cruise about 2-3 times a year - we have sailed on every major cruise line. There really is no comparison - Celebrity is heads and shoulders above NCL. In, fact, the cruise industry does not even consider them to be in the same class - Celebrity is rated as a "Premium" cruise line, while NCL is rated as a "Contemporary" cruise line.

NCL does not match, or even come close to the levels of service, quality of food or overall ambiance that Celebrity does. The big question here is how structured you want your cruise to be. Celebrity has "assigned" dining times and various dress codes for dinner (formal nights, casual nights, etc.), where NCL has "Freestyle" dining. In other words, they have 4-8 restaurants for you to choose from, and you eat when, where, and with whom you want - and dress as casual as you please. Many people like NCL for this reason. Another aspect of NCL, is that they have - very quietly over the past few years, been building many new ships. They have a pretty young fleet.

You will absolutely enjoy your cruise experience on either cruise line, however, having sailed on both, I can tell you some of the "touches" that we find missing on NCL.

- When first getting on-board a Celebrity ship, you are greeted by an officer, offered champagne, and escorted to your cabin by a white-gloved crew member who assists you with your carry-on luggage. Upon arrival in your cabin, you are given a quick orientation briefing. When boarding an NCL ship, you're kind of on your own!

- We find the room service menu on NCL to be extremely limited. No shrimp cocktails or cheese platters as on Celebrity.

- No shushi bar on NCL. Celebrity has a shushi cafe every night.

- When returning to the ship from a shore excursion on Celebrity, you are greeted with cold towels, water or fruit juice. Not on NCL

- On Celebrity, shrimp cocktail and escargot are on the menu every night as a dinner appetizer - shrimp only available once during our last NCL cruise, even when asked for!

NCL tends to attract a younger and family oriented crowd, while Celebrity generally caters to a slightly older group of clients.

If you'll step back and take an overall look at Celebrity Cruise Line, you notice that they've won some pretty impressive awards.
- they won 6 of the top 10 positions in the Best Large Ship category
- won highest rated Premium Cruise Line
- took top 3 spots for Best Crew/Service
- won all 4 Best Food/Dining rankings
- top spot Best Cabins

You don't get to this position by offering a less than first-class product. I'm confident that once you experience Celebrity, you'll be spoiled. Other cruise lines just don't match-up to the levels of service, attention to detail, quality of food and overall cruise experience.

Some final thoughts; 1) make sure you use a good travel agent; 2) remember that August - October is hurricane season. Have fun - planning is a big part of the enjoyment!

Enjoy your cruise - which ever way you deside to go. Bon voyage!

Celebrity definitely. You get better service and better quality and the people are amazing. Its a really nice cruise line, and you cant get some of the best deals on their ships, and everything. Its a really great cruise line!!

Norwegian is the best. Celebrity ships are very small and do not have a very good children's program. If you are not interested in kids program, then Celebrity would be good for you because of the smaller, more intimate settings.

Hope this helps!

i've heard that celebrity has a lot of internal problems with crew and maintaining proper standards on food which in turn can cause practically everyone to get sick (that did happen where like half the ship was sick) and I've heard that norwegian does not have great food

Celebrity will tend to have a more mature crowd.
NCL is trying real hard but I'd stay away from the Hawaii sailings. they've had staff problems there.

Sorry, but I like Carnival.
