The standard cruise ship cabins (not suites and penthouses) are about the size of a small hotel room and they have about the same acoustical properties as if you were in a hotel. If people next door are really loud you will hear them. But you will not hear the normal talking and/or comings and goings (or their sexual activities ........... LOL). I have been on many cruises on 5 different cruise lines and the people next door, on either side, have never been a noise problem; have not even heard their TV.
The cabins on cruise ships there days are actually modular units that are built in a location away from the shipyard and then trucked to the ships construction location. I saw this on the travel channel when they shows how ships are built. So the units are constructed and insulated and then pushed into the ship from outside; both inside and outside cabins. |

I just got back from Carnival Triumph cruise. We had kids on either side of us and I did not hear anything at all. I was very impressed, I figured I would have. I could hear people going down the halls, but it wasn't even as bad as in a hotel.
My problem was we had a balcony room directly below the Lido deck, where people are all times of night and day. I frequently heard footsteps and chairs being dragged. |

I've been on a lot of cruises, the only time I had this problem is when I had a room that had an adjoining door. They have those rooms for familys or friends and you can go in between the rooms. I've only gotten a room like this once and even then I could hear faint sounds every once in a while but it wasn't a problem. When I've had the standard rooms I've never heard anybody else. |

I think you mean cabins as rooms on ships are public areas.
I've been on over 30 cruises and never been bothered by noise from my neighbours.
Anyway, after all the activities and food you'll fall asleep as soon as your head hits the pillow! |

only if you have very sensitive hearing will you hear anyone next to you unless the kids in the cabin next door are holy terrors. |

The cabins are one next to the other. But in newer ships they are sound proofed. Of course, if you leave your balcony door open you might hear some noises from next door.
But passengers spend a lot of time in the public areas or on shore, so I wouldn't worry about that. |

Yes the rooms are close to each other for the most part. Think of it like this...............just like living in an apartment complex or in a hotel......sometimes you have loud neighbors sometimes you dont. Do not hesitate to report it if it becomes out of hand. You wont notice the people in the next room unless they are rude and crank up the tv or do somthing out of the ordinary. All and all you should be fine! |

We've been on over a dozen cruises and I don't every remember hearing the people next door .
Occasionally you will hear kids running down the hall, but the room stewards will ask them to stop. |

Yeah. But don't worry. You can't hear them TALK. If someone's loud, you can hear a MURMUR. |

I've been on several cruises and have never had a this problem. Though the rooms are rather close, they are well sound-proofed, even those that have adjoining doors - there's a door on each side and you cannot hear the people in the adjoining cabin. If you have a balcony cabin, you may hear them when they are on their balcony.
The door that leads to and from the corridor also cuts a lot of the noise from the corridor. You can hear the voices, but they are rather muted. You can hear the chime that indicates a message is being made, but you have to open the door to hear the announcement - at least on the ships I've taken.
It is overall (and in my experience) a very quiet environment. I've stayed at hotels that were very much noisier, and you could hear every noise being made in the rooms beside, above and below.
Enjoy your cruise! |

The rooms are pretty close to each other and they turn on the t.v. you can hear it pretty darn clear. I wouldn't worry about it though. Just go outside and enjoy ex: go to the buffet, theatre, childrens play area, etc. Swimming too! |
