On a cruise ship, who deals with maintenance problems like faulty plumbing or lights that don't work? Is?

there someone who is the equivalent of a building superintendant? What is the title of such a person or persons? For example "O my god the toilet is backed up; call the----------"

There are Carpenters onboard, Electricians, Plumbers and AC technicians.

Some cruise lines have a Hotel Engineer who could be compared to the "building superintendent'.
Some Cruise lines have things organized a little different and the one being called would be either from the Deck or Engine Department - depending on what the problem is.

You as a guest would either tell your steward /ess or the receptionist - and they will pass on your needs to the correct department/person.

There are crew members on board who can fix anything that might go wrong, and all you have to do is pick up the phone and tell the operator what is wrong, or just mention it to your steward or stop by the purser's office, and they will take care of it. A few years ago I was on the QE2 and heard a huge BANG in the middle of the night, and since my cabin happened to be the forward-most cabin on Two Deck I initially though we had hit something. However, for some reason the glass shower door had slipped off the tracks and hit the bathroom wall. I couldn't get it back on the tracks myself without risking breaking it, so I padded it with a towel and went back to bed. On my way to breakfast I stopped by the purser's desk and told them about it, and by the time I had returned from breakfast it was fixed and all shiny.

They have a maintenance staff to take care of any problems. We had a problem with the shower once and they fixed it within a couple of hours.

Just like a hotel, the cruise ships have dedicated maintenance people that will take care of anything and everything that comes up. These people are usually pretty good, and I've never had a problem that they haven't been able to fix!
