On a cruise, where is the better place to room for less movement of the ship. Front, or back? |

The middle of the ship is the best for less movement and reduced noise.
At the front of the ship, you get the vibration and noise from the bow thrusters when docking and undocking, and the rattle of the anchor if the ship is lying off the port.
At the rear of the ship, you get vibration from the propellers and the stern thrusters when docking.
When choosing your cabin, check the deck plans, make sure that there are cabins above the one you want, there is nothing worse than a cabin below a public place, when during the night, the crew are cleaning or restocking. |

The middle of the ship and down low is the least likely place to get sea sick. You feel the most up high, but of course many like it high up. So if you still want the best views, stick with the middle of the ship |

About the center of the ship and low down. If you're on a cruise, who cares about a room with a window to see outside? The whole cruise is outside! Besides, it's a total pleasure to walk through a cruise-ship on the way to the deck; you get lost and bump into new things all the time. I don't mind the remotest room for the cheapest price, because I still have all the food and other enjoyments as everybody else. And less movement! |

The center is the most stabile, next is the back and the least stable is the very front. Some people say they feel vibration on the back. |

If your afraid that you might get sea sick then start taking sea sick pills 24 hours before you leave. We just got back from a Royal Caribbean cruise and the ship was very stable. have fun! |

The best place is as close to the center of the ship as possible. As the boat rocks from side to side you will notice that the center stays stable, the same is true as the ship rises and falls from front to back. As a crude illustration think of the ship as a see-saw. As a wave drives the front of the ship up the center will remain as is and the back of the ship will go down, as the wave recedes the opposite happens but the center remains fairly stable. Of course all bets are off if the Captain hasn't got a clue, not likely on a $600 million cruise ship. |

Middle and low down.
However the best cabins are up high!
Frankly on the big ships they "move" so little in the seas (due to their weight/size) and the stabilisers work so very well it really doesn't matter where you are! |

Strangely enough, the best place to be is closer to the center of the ship and closer to the waterline. The more expensive cabines (higher up and to the fore and aft) have more movement.
On my last cruise, my sister had a lovely suite near the front, while I had a room in the "cheap seats." She and her husband were quite seasick, but I never experienced a problem and I am usually the one who gets seasick. |

As someone who gets seasick easily and has been on 10+ cruises, I can confirm the consensus that center + low is best. This would mean that being on the bottom deck in the dead center in an inside cabin should have the least movement. On the other hand, I find that being able to look outside, and open the balcony door for some air balances out the additional movement from not being dead center in an inside cabin. Try to stay on a low deck unless you NEED greater visibility. However, 1 or 2 decks higher in the center is better than being at the extreme end of the ship. Being *slightly* behind center is better than being *slightly* forward of center, but being slightly forward of center is better than being far to the back of the ship. |
