Once on a Cruise Ship, what should I expect to spend?

I want to eat and drink well. Would I be better off with an all inclusive resort instead? Is there a such thing as an all inclusive cruise line?

Bill in Kansas
All of your food is included.

Drinks run about 5 - 7 dollars
so figure out how many drinks you'll be having and you'll have your answer

You can always smuggle booze in your luggage. I always do

the buffet is included but if you want to eat at any of the restaurants its going to cost you extra. plus if you want to enjoy the island food you're going to pay for that also. i know pop isnt included unless you buy the wrist band. i dont think alcohol is included but i cant remember that one?

depends what you're looking for in a vacation. do you just want to be on a ship with a ton of people? or spend more time on the beach?

some good all inclusives in Jamaica would be...Royal Decameron Montego Bay, Breezes Runaway Bay, and Grand Lido Negril. theres more but i dont know if you're going with a spouse, or friends or alone.

As mentioned on a cruise, just about all food is free. If you want to dine at a specialty restaurant, you will have to pay a per person fee. You normally get water, coffee, punch or lemonade, iced and hot tea free at most meals. Breakfast usually has juices included as well. Any other drink you will pay for. If you drink more than a couple sodas a day, it will likely be worthwhile to invest in a soda card. You pay a per day price for the duration of the cruise for unlimited soda. Any alcoholic drink is extra of course.

All inclusive vs. cruise. Benefit of a cruise is that you get to visit different ports and the entertainment, activities and service is generally much better than at an all inclusive resort. At an all inclusive, you would get a bigger room and probably be less crowded around the pool and grounds compared to a cruise. Pretty much the only thing you would get free at an all inclusive that you don't on a cruise is the drinks and tips. At both you would be paying for spa treatments, gambling, and photos. So if you plan on drinking quite a bit, all inclusive may be a better deal but I think the amenities and overall experience on a cruise is superior to any all inclusive I've been to.

There are "luxury" all inclusive cruise lines. They tend to be on much smaller ships and cost significantly more than RC, Carnival and the like. They also tend to go the less traveled ports. If you are curious, check out Silversea Cruises or The Yachts of Seabourn.

Unless you splurge on a specialty restaurant on board, there is no additional charge for food. You do pay for alcoholic beverages, and how large that bill will be will be based on how much you drink. (You can also run up a pretty big bill in a casino, in the spa, and shopping, but again, all those charges are your decision.)

I enjoy cruises and all-inclusive resorts, but for different reasons. The food is included at both, and the food on the ship is better. The drinks are extra on the ship, but are better drinks. The drinks at all-inclusive resorts are no extra charge, but almost always use the least expensive brands of liquor and are often watered down. If your goal is just to get drunk and stay drunk, go to the all-inclusive resort. If your goal is a good drink, go on the ship.

(:
the cruise doesn't get profit from simply the cruise price itself. instead, they get all of their money from drinks, the casinos, the excursions, etc. i've been on many cruises, generally my family spends about $500-600 on three people. remember that there are also specialty restaurants on board such as italian restaurants and ben & jerrys (well, for royal carribbean at least) hope i helped! i don't think you'd be better off with an all inclusive resort though, cruises are definetely worth it! if you don't eat or drink anything extra, then the cruise is all inclusive.

Think a bit more adventurously. You aren't going just to eat/drink.

You are going to see strange new places.
Stuck in an "inclusive resort" when you get home and people say what did you think of the country you will say "don't know never went out of the resort!"

Cruises are basically semi inclusive. You get all your meals for free (alcoholic/coke etc. drinks are extra at meals). If you drink heavily it will cost you, they aren't cheap!
BUT they change the scenery for you every day - for free!

We've just come back from 9 day cruise. the "extras" cost was $740 for both of us. The biggest single cost was the compulsory $10/day/person gratuities, i.e $180!
