On June 1, 2009 all cruise passengers will be required to possess a passport unless on a closed loop cruise (see below). Prior to that date if you are only traveling to and from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda you only need documentation as indicated in the closed loop rules below. Travel to all other countries requires a passport.

U.S. citizens on closed-loop cruises (cruises that begin and end at the same port in the U.S.) will be able to enter or depart the country with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate and government-issued photo ID. A U.S. citizen under the age of 16 will be able to present either an original or a copy of his or her birth certificate, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad issued by DOS, or a Certificate of Naturalization issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Please be aware that you may still be required to present a passport when you dock at a foreign port, depending on the islands or countries that your cruise ship is visiting. Check with your cruiseline to ensure you have the appropriate documents for the stops you’ll be making on your cruise.

Passports are not required until June 1, 2009.

If you sail and return before June 1st, all you need is a certified copy of your birth certificate and your driver's license.

A cruise around the island of Manhattan.

Any cruise that crosses international waters requires a Passport as you are leaving one port and "passing" into another

All cruises from the US require you to stop at one foreign port. Even a cruise from San Diego to Hawaii stops at Ensenada, Mexico on the return trip. Even if you do not plan going ashore you are required to produce your passport and driver's license when checking into the ship.

Yeah, a cruise to Hawaii you shouldn't need a passport because your not traveling to any other countries, unless they require a passport to travel in the ocean, but im 90% sure you dont need one, and hawaiian cruises are beautiful! Its also nice because "technically" your not going out of the country
Try royal caribbean:)

ALSO- GREAT TIP!!! Instead of spending a $100+ on a passport they now offer Passport Cards, which look like a drivers license and are only about $40 dollars. they work the same as a passport and are used for ONLY Canada, bahamas, caribbean and mexico. they also last just as long as a passport (10 years) Great idea huh? try that if you wanna go out of the country
