Pirates and cruise ships? |
My mom, grandma, and infant son are going on a 5 day caribbean, Mexico cruise tomorrow out of Texas. Should I be concerned about pirates, given the recent hijackings of ships for food and fuel? |

You shoudnt vory at all. The pirate activites is in Somalia on the east coast of Africa and is thousends of miles away from texas and caribean. So just relax and enjoy your dream vacation.
Usually pirates strikes in countries with poor or inadvecate gouverments such as somalia and some countries in south east asia. I havent heard of a strike towards a big cruise ship thou and thinks that pirates would be afraid of the shear number of crew and passengers.
As a final ad you might have heard of pirates of the carebean but you have to remember that that happend three hundred years ago or so.
Your worst fear should be drunk drivers and pick pockers in the port instead... Johan.

You should forget it as that area is not a pirate infested area. The areas in Malacca, and around Africa's coastline are. You do have to be careful on the streets with con artists, pickpockets etc. It is common in tourist areas. Your usual street smartness will keep trouble away from you. But they are generally nice people in Mexico. So, enjoy your cruise. |

No definately not.
The pirates have no chance at getting onto a giant oceanliner thats 14 stories tall!
Unless they have maybe airplanes or helicopters.
But they don't so definately don't worry. |

I went on a cruise to India last year. Our boat was captured by Mongolian pirates which held us captured for several days. I was eventually released after forced to have sex with the captain and my sister in a threesome, I was tied down. It's not easy to talk about so I know the risks, enjoy your cruise...
PS i find my sister attractive so it wasnt that bad... |
