Planning on a 5-day Cruise to Mexico...NEED HELP!!?

HI! I'm planning on going on a cruise on Jan., 2007. Leaving from Galveston, TX. I'm not sure which cruise line is better (carnival, or Royal Caribean). There will be 4 adults(two couples) and the ages are between 22-26. This will be our 1st cruise ever and we all would like it be memorable. If ya could help me and give me tips about both and what differences are between the ships it would really help me out alot on making a decision. Thanks for your time!

I am a travel agent...
The differences in the two ships are Carnival is more neon lights, lots of fun a and games on board ship, in the dining room the waiters come out and sing and dance for entertainment. Royal Caribbean is more brass, recessed lighting, and more outdoor activities, such ad rock climbing walls, and on the newer ships, ices skating rinks, putt putt golf, main street..etc..
as far as which ship has the better reputation, royal caribbean has better food, and service, Anytime you get a small "city" together, you will experience drinking and partying. BUT carnival IS more laughter and fun, where Royal Caribbean is more about the guest and their needs. you would be catered more by Royal Caribbean.

Royal Caribbeans pricing is about 25% higher than Carnival, but that is for a reason....you get what you pay for.

I would pick Carnival. Also, if you go to several different ports, make sure, when exchanging money, not to go to the places that are the most obvious. Instead, go into town more where locals would go. You get a much better rate of exchange for your buck. Have fun!

Choose a cabin which has a balcony. Or at least with a big window =)

It is really fantastic.. U can have the view of the ocean in your own room.

We just got back from a Royal Carribean cruise. It was wonderful. It was divine. The food was fantastic. Did you know that Royal Carribean and Carnival are owned by the same company. I doubt they are that different.

carnival is more of a party theme you know and Royal Caribean well it doesnt but that doesnt mean you wont have fun it just depends what are you looking for

Megan R
I would say carnival because they have so manny fun things on them. I hear carnival is safer 2.

How fun!!! I've been on two cruises out of Galveston to Mexico, and both were incredible. Once it was just me and my husband, and the other time we went with my brother and his wife (we range in age from 25-33) I cruised with Carnival both times, and was not disappointed. I can't say from experience, but I've heard that Royal Caribbean is not as good as it should be. I would go with Carnival if I were you. Have fun!!!!!

You can go to Travelocity via Yahoo travel and compare the different cruises and companies. Also, tripadvisor would have reviews on both companies and specific ships.

Carnival is better if you are drinking and partying. I however, recommend royal Caribbean.

I've taken a cruise with Carnival and they were great. Food was good and the service, too. It's was so much fun, they had a band play before lunch time and sometimes in the evening, that's besides their club... I had a blast, hope you do too!.

My husband and I took a Mexican Carnival cruise for our honeymoon. We were highly disappointed. The tickets were cheaper, but we found ourselves surrounded by drunk people 24/7.The food was okay, but not up to par with what we expected (nor what we paid for!) We got a soft drink card because we knew we wouldn't be drinking all the time, and were virtually ignored each time we wanted to use it (because we weren't buying alcohol). There weren't a lot of places on the boat to just relax, so we found ourselves in our cabins most of the time. I think I would have had a good time if I had been going to party - it is called "The Fun Ship" - and more so if I had been in college. But if you're interested in a mix of relaxation and fun, I would go with Royal Caribbean.

I used to work for a travel agency dealing only in cruises. I think that is really personal preference. Carnival ships are like going to vegas....if you are into that you'd like it. Royal Carribean is more like Chicago or NYC??? (best example..I'm not sure...but you get the idea) I tend to lean towards RC, but that's just me.
Look at the ship size (bigger is smoother), the Layout, and the year it was built. (Check out the stores, the clubs, and the offered shore excursions)

Ask your travel agent for more specific details.

=c)

Royal Caribbean Rhapsody of the Sea is one that sails out of Galveston. It is a nice ship. I sailed on it in 2000.
Conquest is a newer ship for Carnival and very nice. The other carnival ship, can't think fo the name is old. I sailed on it in 1989. I believe you would enjoy the Carnival most. Royal Caribbean is really more of an older crowd.

cryptoscripto
I've gone on two Carnival cruises leaving from Galveston, and they both were a blast. The Carnival ships are huge and there's plenty to do -- shows, casino, bars, clubs, etc. You will not be bored, ever. Just remember that anything you buy on board will go on your "Sign and Sail" card, which is an account they open for you when you get on board, and you pay for everything the last night of the cruise. While the meals are free, alcohol and soft drinks are not free, so keep that in mind. You can normally check your account status from your cabin through your TV remote control. As the cruise goes on, the items in the shops onboard will get cheaper and cheaper, so wait to get the best deals.

I've only tried Royal Carribean. But you won't regret it.
I've heard people sya Royal Carribean was a little cleaner, maybe a little less noisy, but also that Carnival was more of a party ship.
