I'm going on a cruise with Royal Caribbean in May. I'd like to bring home several bottles of liquor for friends. Is there a limit on how much I can bring back?
You can bring as much as you want back (within reason). The catch is, anything over 2 Liters you have to pay duty on. Of course then you have to get it home. If you are driving then its no problem, but flying... well, I would ship it home because you cant carry it on the flight. The only other option is put it in you checked baggage and hope it doesn't get broken!

It's not a big deal really. For example, when you stop in St Thomas being a USVI port you can bring back one extra bottle (5) as long as it is made in the USVI.
I believe the limit was 4 bottles. However the last day of the cruise customs boards and they have some plan for this. My first cruise with my husband you had to go down stairs at 5am to declare. My other cruises you haven't had to do that at that early in the morning but like an hour before you debark. Anyway based on the number of people the rules get more and more lax.
My last cruise the line was so long that he kept saying Everyone who has more than 6 bottles, go back to your cabin. Everyone who has more than 8 bottles, go back. 10 bottles, go back. Until the line got manageable.
Then you will have to declare the value and since liquor is sooo much cheaper in the Caribbean, you'll pay far less. We got a couple bottles of Absolute in St Martin for about $6 each. Well then the tax is about .40 a bottle. The rum is about $5 each and the tax was something like .30 a bottle. We brought back 13 bottles and it was about $4 customs tax.
Just be aware of flight restrictions. You cannot fly with 151 rum.
So really the only "limit" on alcohol is if you aren't willing to wake up a couple hours early to declare with customs.

Entry requirement back to the US are the same no matter where you are coming from .
U.S. visitors may take home $800 worth of duty-free merchandise. The next $1,000 is taxed at 10%. Gifts valued up to $50 may be mailed home duty-free. One litre of wine, liqueur or liquor and five cartons of cigarettes may be taken duty-free.
For the most part.. US agents don't bother collect tax under $10.. so you can add an additional bottle or two without paying the customs taxes on it.

Yes there is a limit in the bahamas, i think you can only purchase one bottle per person, but im not sure, i went a few years ago on royal caribbean. I know the customs agents at Bahamas port are very strict. I wish i could remember exactly the limit but sorry i can't.
