Question about tipping? |
My wife and I are going on our first cruise to the Bahamas. I've been told by someone with more experience in cruising that it's a good idea to tip the cabin stewart about twenty bucks as soon as we meet him or her cuz then he or she will take care of you more than others, and show you the way. Is this true or is a bunch of bunk? |

I don't know about today, but at one time this type of thing was done frequently. Check online on etiquette books and see what they say. |

I've been on 4 cruises and have never done this. Some people do this, but I think its insulting to the steward. We always leave our auto tips on our sail n sign card and then tip an extra 20 or 30 dollars if they did an excellent job. |

Tips should be for good service received. I've been travelling over 40 years and never heard of tipping before a service was provided. It should be an option based on what kind of service you received, not a requirement paid in advance. |

When we went we tipped our cabin stewart $20 at the end of the cruise. It is not require just a nice thing for a good job. I've never heard about tipping at the beginning. They should do their jobs right without you having to give them money at the ebginning of the cruise |

Usually, the tip is already included in the cruise payment.
well, it has for me.
however, at the approach of the end of the cruise, some people tip (extra) their waiter (for the formal night dinner- it should be the same person)
also, idk about other cruise ships, but i didn't really meet my cabin stewart. he/she just cleaned things up while i was gone. |

Questions is though, what do you need him to do. Everything is provided for on the cruise including tips. You may end up giving him twenty bucks and then never need him. I'd wait to see if you need to do that. |
