Question for those of you who have taken cruises?

We will be taking our first cruise to the Caribbean in the middle of May. And since we have never been and it is for 7days. What is the best thing we could do for sea sickness if it does occur and we run into some rough waters? Both of us when we were younger have been car sick. Celebrating 25yrs of marriage so we want this cruise to be special.

My husband loves Bonine. He says it's wonderful. A lot of people use the Dramamine and nearly every cruise I've been on, I've seen people that swear by those magnetic bracelets.

I've heard ginger pills and I've heard lemon in sparkling water.

There are tons of options and only you can know how sensitive you are and how you'll react. You may want to bring several things just in case one is too strong for you and knocks you out. Certain places are known for having rougher waters. Cruising out of the north (like leaving Baltimore or NY) are known for being rougher. Leave Belize is usually rough. The closer you stay to Florida the calmer the water is so a cruise going to St Thomas, St Martin and a private island will usually be very calm.

Also the location on the ship matters a lot. People who get very seasick want to be low and in the middle. The ends of the ship rock more and the top of the ship has more sway just like in a building.

Will your ship be tendering at any port? You'll definitely make sure to take it that day.

The suggestions of buying it on the ship are terrible. It's 3 times more expensive, way less of a selection, and by then its too late.

However ships have a lot of stabilizers and in general are very smooth. If you don't get motion sick if you ride in the backseat of a car, chances are you will not get sick on the cruise ship. The majority of the time you can barely feel the movement of the ship at all.

Bonine, it works great for my family on cruises. You take one pill before you leave the dock, you will be perfect.

They sell pills on board for sea sickness but I would book a cabin midship if you are worried about getting sick.

I took the non-drowsy Gravol with me. Regular Gravol knocks me out. They are all natural ginger pills. They worked for me on a smaller boat on rough water and they worked for me on the cruise. I don't tend to be too bad for motion sickness though.
I noticed alot of people on the boat had a patch behind their ear and I know of others that wear a bracelet.
Maybe take the pills and one of the other options as a backup. They do sell stuff on the ship if you find something doesn't work , but it will cost you more.
I ended up getting really sick the last night on the ship (not motion sick) and the guest services desk gave me a strong pill (metrazine?) that worked wonders but did knock me out.
I have also heard that a cabin midship is best if you are worried about motion sickness.
Have fun, i just got back on Sunday from my first cruise and can't wait to go again.

i bought some dramamine prior to getting on the ship (if you buy stuff on the ship it costs a ton), and it worked very well the few times i got seasick. it's available at any drugstore and there's a non-drowsy formula too. have fun! :-)

We have been on several cruises and my wife uses Dramamine and it works well. Do use a patch. My wife's aunt used one on a cruise that we were on and had a really bad reaction to it. As if she overdosed.

They sell stuff on the ship. But I have gotten carsick before too, and I didn't have a problem with sea sickness, so hopefully you won't either. Honestly, I didn't anyone on the ship who did, though I'm sure there were some. I have heard dramamine works well. I heard bad things about the patch though; it works, but apparently once you take it off you feel horrible and get a headache.
