I've been on most every ship. Personally, I love Princess, I think they are a great line, but, depending on the ship, they can have more older people onboard. Princess does cater more to adults than younger people and children, but they are still a great line.
Carnival is okay, and in my opinion really is a big party boat. Lots of partying, drinking, gambling, etc. In my opinion, they have declined a lot over the years with their food, service and cleanliness (they have had the most problems with people getting sick onboard) It is an okay cruise line, but just not for me.
Personally, I would pick just about any cruise line over Carnival, but that is just me, a lot of people love them. A few lines to look into would be Royal Caribbean and NCL, I think these are both better options than Carnival. Just be sure to read some reviews before making anything final and you should be fine.
Hope this helps! |

I went on my cruise with NCL and for me, it was perfect. It's kind of a mix between Holland America, Princess, and Carnival. It has the great service and food of Holland America, the luxury of Princess, and the fun of Carnival. But, it isn't as wild as Carnival (thank goodness). |

Been on Carnival Imagination, Carnival Valor and Norwegian Star.
The Imagination was in the Western Caribben, Valor was Eastern Caribbean and Nowegian Star in Hawaii.
Was on the Star when it went from Island to Island in Hawaii before it was replaced by the American flagged ships.
Truthfully, each one had passengers from every age group. Yes, Carnival does have a lot more going on for younger people that party but it's not like it's the only thing going on on Carnival ships.
Princess does cater to more of the older passengers where Carnival caters a little more to younger passengers with their parties and activities.
One thing to think about on the Hawaii cruise is that some cruises start out in California and you will be sailing for a couple days to the Islands and back while some are ported and sail around the Islands so you have very few whole days at sea and more time on the islands. Some in fact port at islands for a couple of days before going to the next island (Norwegian does this with their American flagged ships).
The thing I would tell you is don't think so much about what other passengers are on a cruise but what ports or places do you want to see on a cruise and go that way. Because in the end, it's just a matter or more passengers within an age group than others, but the bottom line is there are all age groups on all cruises. Just think about what you'd like to see, how much of the places you'd like to see vs. how long on the ship and who else is on the ship with you. Like the Hawaii cruises that start and end at Hawaii ports and are at different islands each day, the time you are on the cruise isn't anything compared to seeing a lot of places in Hawaii while in so many ports (7 ports in 7 days compared to 3-4 ports in 7 days).
Make your own cruise and don't worry about what other passengers are on the ship because no matter what cruise, there are things to do all day and night for all ages on every cruise. Concentrate more on what you'd like to see on a cruise. |

We have been on Queen Mary II, Norwegian, Holland America (sucks), Princess (sucks), Carnival (sucks) - of course they are all owned by the same company - no customer service, food stinks, and noro virus abounds! We love Royal Caribbean and Celebrity. |

I've cruised several times on Royal Carribean and never been disappointed. People say it's for old people, but that's not true at all. I've been the following ships: Viking Serenade, Radiance of the Seas, and Grandeur of the Seas. The Radiance is the best. With RC, the rule is: Anything you want, any time you want it. They really do treat you like a god. A friend of mine went on Carnival and didn't like it. I'll stick with RC for my cruises. As a matter of fact, my wife and I are going on another next April! |

When I did my first cruise back in 1988 the travel agent said stay away from Carnival because it has a very young crowd and not the best accommodations. I started out cruising on Norwegian and have been on five of their ships. Its a good cruise line for people in their late 30's to maybe early 60's. I like their ships and food, but I do not care at all for their freestyle cruising because I like to have an assigned table and waiter. I like to get to know my waiter and vice versa, and know whom my gratuity is going to.
I have never been on Holland America but have heard that they have great ships, food and staff. I have also heard that they have a very old crowd, like 50's to 70's and up, and that they ocassionally have people die on ship, especially their very long 30 to 60 day cruises.
I have been on three Princess ships and in my opinion they have some of the best decor. I love their cabins and the layout of their ships. Their food is excellent and so is their staff. I cruised with them to Alaska, Panama Canal and the Caribbean and found that they have a mixture of people in the 40 to 60 age range.
I have been on five Royal Caribbean ships and I have to say they that cruise line and their ships are my favorites. They have excellent food, staff, entertainment and amenities. I have found that the crowds are mixed on their ships form 30's, with family, to 60's. Their ships do cater to all age groups too. They have a pool area called an Aqua Zone which features a play are just for kids. Then they have a solarium, a kinda indoor/outdoor pool area, that is for adults only. My favorite RC ships are the Jewel and the Brillance.
I have also been on one Celebrity ship, the Constellation, and it had a mixed crowd, i.e., 30's to 60's. The ship, service, food and staff were great.
In my opinion you will be just fine on Princess and you will enjoy your cruise with them. Frankly with Princess you are getting a better cruise line than Carnival. |
