Room configurations on a cruise boat? |
The only room left on a cruise with an outside view is one with obstructed view. Has anyone cruised this way, think it is a lifeboat. My son said the problem with inside rooms as you do not know if it is night or day so I would assume even this type of room would give you some indication of this and therefore be ok? Anyone been on one life this and what was your experience? |

2 months ago we went on the Empress of the Seas. It was our 3rd cruise and we had never had an outside room before(with a porthole) so we got one this time. When we walked into our room and opened the curtains we saw a huge lifeboat!!! We were very angery. But by the 3rd or 4th day we didn't even notice because we were hardly in our rooms and when we did look out the window if we look at the very top or bottom we could see. But having sunlight was VERY nice!! If you want to see that bad go up to the top deck, I would reccomend a porthole. It is very nice to tell what time of day it is and if you want to sleep in they have heavy curtains that pretty much block all the sunlight! So i would go for the window! PS( this was on a Royal Caribbean cruise so i am not sure about curtains and all that on anything but RCI) |

Obstructed view is just fine for the reasons above - sunlight. Its not like you are going to site in your small cabin and stare outside. Ask the cruise line or your travel agent if you can have a category guarantee - that way you may get a free upgrade to an unobstructed view cabin! |

It will have some obstruction by a life boat. You will still get natural light in and probably some kind of view. Inside cabins are fine, you usualy have a channel on your tv with a live view of outside the ship or a watch will soon tell you the time of day!
Dont worry about not having a view, during the night your sleeping, the day you will be out exploring ports or on deck, it will just be used for sleeping and changing!!

TINKERTOY ..... the 1 & only
|
My first Princess cruise was an obstructed view cabin. The window was about 4 feet rectangular and so quite a bit of light came in and when you looked out you could actually see the ocean between two lifeboats.
But what YOU see will depend entirely on where your cabin is. There is no telling what. If you are on the deck that has all of the lifeboats outside the window you could very well have a window that is smack in the middle of the boat instead of between them. Then some obstructed views are because the contour of the ship changed at a point outside your cabin and there may be a bulkhead, poles, wiring or other stuff blocking the view.
But like others have said, leave the curtain open, you get light and after a day or so you don't notice what's out there; you can and will spend a lot of time lounging in places on ship where you can see as much as anyone else.
For me, ... that was the last time that I cruised and did not get a balcony cabin and pay the extra for it. |
