Royal Caribbean Cruise Formal Night?

We are getting married on the day we leave for our cruise. Dec 31 2007. I have a ivory cocktail type dress. Alittle below the knee. Would it be ok to wear on formal night so I dont have to pack another dress? I dont have a picture of it but this is close just in Ivory/off-white.

That dress is fine. I've seen many people underdressed and the maitre D does nothing. That is a great dress for formal night you need a "cocktail dress or gown for the women "Suit or tux for the men". I gotten that from their website. so you are fine with your dress.

It also depends on what ship you are going on. The smaller the ship the less formal the formal night really is. If you are going on a 3 or 4 night cruise you might even be overdressed anyway.

Congratulations and have a great time.

Normally, I'd say no; a wedding dress should be reserved for the wedding, but I understand your desire not to pack another dress, and many women; especiallly for a second marriage, wear something dressy for the wedding that they'll wear again. It's up to you.

Noted only for information: My first wife wore a pink suit for our informal wedding and never wore it again; my second wife wore a chiffon-type dress with a floral pattern which she did not wear again; my third wife wore a gold and purple shantung silk two-piece garment and she wore it only once again that I recall.

Your dress sounds lovely, and if I were your new husband, I'd be proud to have you wear it to the ship's formal dinner, dancing afterward in the Crow's Nest lounge, and even a bit of gambling just to show you off.

it will be absolutely fine and in fact better than some... i saw one couple on a RC cruise that never seemed to wear anything but sweatpants - even on formal night...

whatever floats your boat - right?

Absolutely. Cocktail style dresses are very common for cruise formal nights - I've definitely worn them. You don't need a gown. Your husband can wear a suit or a tuxedo.

If you were going to someone else's wedding what would you wear? Guys should wear a coat and tie. You don't need a Tux. By the way I saw your dress and it is fine.

CONGRATULATIONS first of all. Also that dress is perfect for formal wear. Have fun on the cruise...

Yes, you will find peoples ideas of 'formal' are quite different. I wore a black cocktail dress on my last cruise. Some people were dressed to the nine in elaborate ball gowns and others were more simple dressed. Chic casual I will call it. It is what makes you feel comfortable. You really cannot be out of place since there are a wide variety of people all wearing different things.

Anything really goes for formal night...they let people in with jeans and golf shirts on our RCCL cruise.

However, most people do dress up and again...anything goes!! Some people we dressed as formal as you can get tuxes and puffy dresses, we wore simple dresses and suits.

So, whatever makes you comfortable. it is a great chance to get family photos though with everyone dressed up...They take pics all over the ship on formal night so don't miss out!

Tivogal
sure , that is fine. sounds very appropriate to me.
look at cruiseclues.com
also for lists and info on packing for your cruise.
