Royal Caribbean versus Carnival Cruise!!?

So my friend and I are both 21 year old girls and we are planning to go on a cruise in Aug 2007...I have never been on a cruise, so I was wondering other people's opinions on which of these cruises are better? I know Carnival is a bit more expensive, but I am willing to pay a little more if it is that much better than Royal Caribbean. If they are relatively the same, I would go for the Royal Caribbean.

We both want to be able to drink and be able to party at night...Is one of these cruise lines more a "party" scene than the other? We also want to have lots of things to do on the ship besides drink obviously, so I was also wondering which cruise has more entertainment in general.

Also, how expensive are alcoholic drinks on the ships? Since it's just the two of us, I wasn't sure if there's a way you can get some type of pre-paid card to use at the bars.

Thanks to anyone who can help with my questions!
Additional Details
Thanks for the input, I think I will definetly go with Carnival after reading the responses...In this particular case both of the cruises I was looking at are leaving the same days, going to the Bahamas, but after pricing it all out, the Royal Caribbnea somehow is about $70 cheaper for this cruise, but if Carnival is geared more towards a yougner crowd that's what i am going to choose.

thanks!

Your question is really easy. Carnival is not more expensive than Royal Caribbean it's actually MUCH cheaper. Royal Caribbean has more exclusive clubs and restaurants and is alittle bit more upscale than Carnival. Carnival is a great cruiseline if your looking for a cruise vacation and are on a budget. About the entertainment, both cruiselines are about the same. There are theaters, clubs, bars, and there are even casinos on some ships. Drinks are rather expensive on cruises but if your willing to pay i guess it's ok.
Hope this helps!

Carnival would be best suited to 21 year olds.
Royal is a more family oriented cruise line.

Carnival is cheaper then Royal Caribbean. Also Carnival caters more to a younger hipper crowd, and has more of a party scene with lots of gambling, drinking, and partying, at all hours. I think that you would really fit in on there, and I would go for at least a 7 day cruise. Carnival has a waterslide and pools and alot of fun things to besides going into port. You can also mingle with guys, which you might find interesting. Alcoholic drinks are around $4-$6 per one, so that could run you quite a tab, and if you like sodas, you could opt for the unlimited soda card, which is anywhere from $20-$35, and goes for non alcoholic drinks as well. You use your room card anywhere you go to get on the ship and back onto the ship, and you always must have your ship ID and regular ID with you.

Based on what your looking for, I'd go Carnival. They are not more expensive between the two. Expect to pay $5 a pop for single shot liquor mixed drinks like rum and coke or jack and coke. $6.50 for multiple liquor drinks like sex on the beach etc. None of the lines I know of offer a prepaid card, you must use your sea pass card which chrages to your room and is marked if your a minor.

Royal Caribbean owns Carnival. Carnival is cheaper than RC. But, the food and accommodations are not nearly as good.

I would absolutely without a doubt go with Royal Caribbean. Carnival's ships appear to be run-down and way to glitzy. The service on Carnival is absolutely horrendous and the quality of the food isn't nearly as good as that on Royal Caribbean. For the nightclub/bar that you want, you'd be fine on Royal Caribbean, especially on their newer ships, as they have 21+ nightclubs that offer current and fun music. Carnival probably does have a few more young adults than the average Royal Caribbean cruise, but the quality of a Carnival cruise is much lower than that of a Royal Caribbean cruise.

For price, Carnival is the cheapest, but Royal Caribbean has some great deals too. It makes sense that Carnival is the cheapest, as they don't have the same quality of service, food, and ships that Royal Caribbean has.

For the ultimate cruising experience, you can't go wrong with Royal Caribbean International.

ya i think Carnival is more of a party boat. I've been on Royal Carribean and it was fantastic thou it is more family oriented. They did have stuff going throughout most of the night thou, a dance club, sometimes they had a poolside party at night, etc. The drinks were what you would expect to pay, like 6-8 dollars for mixed drinks, beers a bit cheaper. Royal Carribean has a card so you don't have to carry cash around. I had a blast on the cruise thou. Have fun whatever you choose.
