Royal carribean cruise? |
My mom is planning on taking my siblings(10 month twins, and a six year old that will be turning 7 on the cruise) and I(14) on a royal carribean cruise but we are kind of stuck with the planning. We want to know if when you are booking the cruise how old is the child you have to book for, like what is the age that you have to pay for and when you book online do you tell the age of the 10 mont twins or what? Also what about the shore and land exursions can you do your own? or must you do it with the cruise line. Another question exactly how is the royal carribean cruise? Details bad and Good sides. |

If I count correctly you are looking to book a cruise for five or six people. Given the ages you list, I think you are going to want only one cabin (which would be a family sized cabin) or two cabins with a connecting door (since standard cabins only hold four at the most).
Everybody has to be listed and your parents will have to pay for all, including the two youngest. The following is from Royal Caribbean's website ...
Special Cruise Pricing
Q: Are there special prices for children or infants?
A: Because Royal Caribbean cruise vacations offer so many special activities for children, we do not usually offer discounted rates. However, anyone staying in the same stateroom with two full-fare paying guests will pay a special third and/or fourth guest rate. So if you intend on having your children stay in your stateroom, their rate may be lower.

Family sized cabins sleep six or more. The first two pay full fare. The rest pay a reduced third or fourth person fare.
If you get two connecting rooms, the first four (two in each cabin) will pay the full fare and the last two will pay a reduced third and fourth person rate.
Yes, you can book your own shore excursions. However, keep in mind that the ship's time might be different than the local time. Since you don't say where you are going, I'll just give you one example. The Royal Caribbean ships that leave from Miami and go to the western Caribbean stay on eastern time. However, some of the islands are on central time (one hour later). It is important to plan for this when booking an independent shore excursion, as independent companies go by local time. The ship's tours are scheduled based on ship's time.
If a ship's tour is late, the ship will wait for you. If an independent tour is late, the ship will not wait for you.
Royal Caribbean has 21 ships with more on order (and some to be sold). Each ship is different. Below are links to my review of my last two Royal Caribbean cruises ...

Yes, you have to tell them about everyone going on the ship.
I don't really know how you are going to get six people in one room unless it is a family suite.
That is a lot of kids to take care of on that sort of trip. |

You will need to tell the cruise line names of everyone going and their ages. They will explain the fees & if you are flying to go on your cruise you will need to either book threw the cruise or at your local airport & have to give them all the names & ages as well. As for shore excursions you can do whatever you want just as long as you return to the ship when they tell you as the ship has a schedule & will not wait. Everyone has different tastes so one person may like Royal Carribean & the next may not. All lines try their best to make sure there are things that everyone will enjoy. Alot depends on the other people on the ship. Go and Enjoy your cruise with your family.
Enjoy. |

I have been on 15 cruises including one on Royal Carribean.
They will tell you which children you have to pay for, but you will have to list their names and ages. They have a terrific program for children of all ages as well as baby sitters. I don't think you will have to pay for the twins. I am not sure what the cost will be for the 6 year old, the 14 may be full fare. You are free to take any shore excursions on your own, you just have to be very careful and make sure you have a firm agreement on price. I am not a fan of RCCL because they have small cabins compared to Carnival or Princess. Carnival is my wife's favorite cruise line. The RCCL ships tend to be HUGE, as are some Carnival ships and I think there is an advantage to a ship about 80,000 gross tons as compared to those 100,000 or more. But RCCL has many things on their ships that are not on others like the rock climbing wall. You will find all of the cruise lines family and children friendly. But for the same price, you may be able to get Princess. Have a great time! Cruising is the greatest vacation in the world! Doc |

While kids usually get special gathering places designated just for them, Royal Caribbean decided to offer a solarium onboard Freedom - just for adults. Fun and relaxing, the solarium presents a rainforest theme with giant sculptures of tropical birds and palm trees, poolside hammocks, a panoramic view of the ocean and music piped underwater. While truly special during the day, the solarium is spectacular at night.
A separate sports pool accommodates the adventurous ones in your group. You'll find traditional favorites such as water volleyball and basketball and some exciting new options including golf and jousting.
For those looking to live life to its fullest, a rock climbing wall, ice skating rink and scuba lessons should provide plenty to do. If relaxation is your goal, work off your stress in the state-of-the-art fitness center under the watchful eye of your personal trainer. Then allow yourself to indulge in any of the massages or treatments available in Freedom's full-service spa. |
