On most cruises you will be seated with other people at a table, unless you request a table for two. You are most likely to get a table for two upon request on a Norwegian cruise because they have freestyle cruising which allows people to go to dinner in the main dining room whenever that want starting at about 5:30 to 6:00 PM. The last cruise we were on the ship had many tables for two.

If you do not request a table for two you will likely be seated with 4, 6, or 8 other people, depending upon who they can fit people into the dining room. But regardless of how you are initially seated you can always go to the MatreD and request a table change, even a change to a table for two. When you make your reservation you can request a table for 2 or a small table vs a larger table and the cruise line will try to accommodate you.

I have been on about 20 cruises on Princess, Celebrity, Norwegian and Royal Caribbean. All of these cruise lines have great menus. The typical menu is different each day and will offer a couple appetizers (like shrimp cocktail or something real fancy), a couple types of soup, a fancy salad (and you can always just oder either a Caesar salad or garden salad), and your choice of 4 or 5 entrees that will include a beef dish (steak or prime rib or fillet mignon on certain days), chicken, pork loin or lamb, fish or seafood (lobster is one day), and a pasta dish. Then they offer several deserts. On Royal Caribbean ships there is a standing alternative menu that you can order from each day that includes baked salmon, steak, grilled chicken, a Caesar salad and you can ask for a baked potato or most any other vegetable if you want it. On any ship you can ask the waiter to bring you a vegetable or meat that you prefer and they will try to accommodate you.

If all of this does not suit you you can go to the casual dining buffet area and pick pretty much what you want from a big smörgåsbord.

When you book your cruise they will ask you if you want to be seated at a large table (6-8) or a small (2-4). We always pick the large table, and enjoy meeting new people every cruise we go on. It's always fun to sit down at the end of the day and discuss what you did and share experiences.
The menu's have a variety of selections, soups, salads, and at least 6 main entree's every night. There are always the standard pasta dish, or a New York Strip steak in case you don't see anything that interests you.

Typically you will have 4-8 people sitting at your table in the main dining room. You don't have to eat at the main dining room as you can eat at any of the other dining venues on board, and there are a wide variety available to you. I like eating dinner in the main dining room as the food is excellent (see the link below for a sample menu) and the dining experience is quite enjoyable. I personally like the idea of sitting with other passengers. My wife and I were at a table for 10 on the Carnival Conquest. Those eight people still email us two years later. You can learn a lot from dining with other passengers especially if they are long time cruisers as they can tell you how to best use all of the amenities the ships have to offer. However if you prefer to eat by yourselves ask for a table for two or use the other dining venues (including room service which is free- it is part of your cruise price)

The cruise I went on had many different size tables. The table I was placed at had 10 people at it. I loved the big table, all of the people we sat with became instant friends with, and really miss all those people. As far as the menu goes, it changes every night. The menu we had would have 3 salads you could pick from, one entree... or 2 if you were really hungry. They usually have a vegan meal, some sort of chicken, fillet minon, some other sort of beef, and pasta.. There are also other side dishes to choose from. Then there is also a dessert menu, which has about 5-6 different desserts on it. Be prepared to EAT! :-).. I went on the Adventure of the Sea, Royal Caribbean... And if there was nothing on the menu that I wanted, I would tell the waiter that I wanted the same thing from the night before... they will do just about any sort of meal for their guests!

Depends on the cruise line and the length of the cruise. Most cruises have a formal dining room that you will eat in on a pre assigned table there are four sizes of table 2-tops , 4-tops,6-tops and 8-tops.If you can tell me the cruise line name and ship name I can give you an Idea of the menu to expect
