Should I be worried about hurricanes on a cruise if I am leaving in the end of august?

Noble Angel
I'm not and I'm leaving in early Sept and this is my second trip this time of the year, and will go again in Sept too

even if a storm does show up the ship will not sail into it and they will just go around and change the ports if it is absolutely necessary (last resort)

emkayach@snet.net
What is easier to move?
1. A 14 storey hotel
2. A Cruise ship

The cruise ship obviously. The safest way to vacation in the tropics and near tropics during hurricane season is on a ship. The ships move away from approaching storms.

Yes and no. I am presuming you are cruising in the Caribbean, otherwise you have little to fear! August is still hurricane season. In that sense, you should be concerned. BUT... a cruise ship can easily change its direction and go around a storm. They do it all the time. It could mean that your trip is diverted or a stop is canceled, but if you are worried about being caught in the storm on the boat, then don't. It won't happen.

In the Caribbean - yes.

you dont really need to worry. everytime ive gone on a cruise in August, ive never come across a hurricane. also, even if a hurricane is coming towards you, the ship will change its course and you will still go to someplace tropical and if its really bad and you have to stay on the ship for an extra day or something, then you will get free stuff.

No need to worry. If there is a storm, the cruise line will change the itinerary. They will not take their ship into a hurricane. You may not get to go to the ports you planned, but you will not lost your cruise. If they have to cancel the entire cruise, then they will refund your money.

madderthanthehatter
They do their best to avoid hurricanes, however, I have been on Carribean cruises in the summer and bad weather is always a possibility in August.

The shipping lanes where ships know they can navigate without hulling the ship are pretty narrow in the Carribean and hurricanes sometimes change their mind where they are going, turn around and come straight at you, in that case the Captain will make for the nearest port.

Unfortunately, yes. That is during hurricane season. Late December through the end of June is the best time for a cruise if you're trying to avoid hurricanes.
