Should I cancel my cruise for this weekend? Debating and need some help!?

Debating and need some help! Should i cancel my cruise for this weekend?
This would be my first time on a cruise so I’m not sure what to expect. We are stopping in Mobay and Cayman but our port to Cozumel was cancelled. Is it still worth going? I was really looking forward to Cozumel.

The short answer is NO !!!! By no means should you cancel. You didn't say which cruise line but it really does not matter. First of all, if you cancel within a week of your cruise you will forfeit ALL of your money (unless you have a family emergency like a death). All of the cruise lines have a sliding scale for refunds as a result of cancellations. If you cancel at least 65 days before the cruise you can get all of your money back. If you cancel within 30 days of your cruise you get back only 50 percent of the price you paid. and if you cancel within 7 days you get back about nothing.

On the other hand, if you go on your cruise the cruise line will substitute a port for Cozumel and regardless you will still have loads of fun. I have been to Cozumel and Grand Cayman many times on cruises and in my opinion Grand Cayman is a better stop. When you get to Georgetown Grand Cayman you'll have a short tender boat ride to the pier and from there you can catch a taxi/jitney bus to the 7-Mile Beach for about $4.00 each way. When you walk out of the pier you are right on front street in the town. I'm not sure where Mobay is, never been there but if that's Jamaica you'll have a great time there also.

What you also need to consider is that the cruise director will plan a variety of activities on the ship for each day, especially if you have "at sea" days when there is no port stop. So you can just plan to enjoy the ship's activities more than you would be able to with all of the port stops. So what I am saying is cruises are fun regardless of and in addition to the port stops. So go on the cruise and have a great time.

If you are cruising with Carnival they are re-routing all stops to Mexico for this week & next, so you will either have an extra day at sea or go to another port. Go & have fun! I'm concerned about our May 30th cruise but we just have to wait and see what they decide to do!

The carnival cruise I am taking just substituted a stop in Belize for the Cozumel, stop.
The letter also said if the change was not acceptable they would give me a "future cruise credit" in amount I have paid for this cruise.

That wouldn't cover my airfare to port, shuttle to & from airport & ship port and night in hotel post cruise. So, thanks for the weak gesture.

I have been to Cozumel twice, trust me when I say you are not missing much. I have a good time, but I would have much rather gone to Grand Cayman, but our trip there was cancelled. I still went on the trip though and had a great time. I will be heading for Jamaica in June and i think you will enjoy that much bettter. Never cancel a trip unless it is a dire emergency. the cruise ships have a way of making you have a great time regardless of where you go.

i would defiantly not cancel your cruise

the truth is i usually have more fun on the boat it self than i do walking around on the ports

so stick with your cruise dont reschedule

Go!!!! The cruise is so much more than the ports. Also, check with the cruise line, they may be going to another port. Might be more fun!!!

Personally I think you should still go. The swine flu is far less likely than catching the flu on a cruise ship. The only thing that made this news worthy is that it was a new strain. Far less people died than die every year from the flu. So don't worry about that.

Now as to your ports, it would help to know what cruise line you are going on. Carnival has done an amazing job at shifting most of those to Belize and Honduras. Check your cruise line to see if you have a new itinerary but if you are going with Carnival here is the site.

http://www.carnival.com/cms/fun/cruise_control/itinerary_updates.aspx

So it is likely you'll still have the same number of ports, just one new and different port. As it is your first cruise it's not like you'd be going to the same place you've been to before.

Cozumel is one of my favorite ports of call as well. I love it. I'd be rather sad to be missing it. But many ships go to Cozumel so you can always catch it on your 2nd and 3rd cruise. I know I wouldn't cancel mine since I get so excited about them. Usually by the time I go on a cruise I need a vacation!

As far as what to expect, you will probably have a less crowded ship b/c some people probably will take the opportunity to cancel your cruise and take the credit for a cruise over the next 2 years. You will have great food, a great ship, amazing drinks,...somewhat decent entertainment, and a really enjoyable first cruise. I wouldn't cancel just b/c Cozumel is out especially since you are going to other great ports.

Take the same obvious precautions you would any time. Wash your hands, use the hand sanitizer when you get on and off the ship. It's there provided for you so use it. But the flu goes around every single year. This one is no different than last year's (just newer) and definitely no more important than the regular flu that goes around every year.

I wouldn't cancel my cruise. I'd go and have a great time seeing new ports of call.

Not unless you have cruise insurance that covers cancellation of a port stop [unlikely]. Cruise lines have the option of cancelling any or all ports of call. Most likely they will make a substitution.

BTW - The beaches in Cayman are NOT "all" private. Some of the hotels/resorts will not let you use their facilities [including chairs, etc], but the beaches themselves are public beaches.

Better check with the Cruise Line, I just received a letter from Carnival stating no refunds. Good luck.

Wow, i did that same itinerary years ago, but before Mobay we went to princess Cays and Cayman which i hated for all the beaches were private. Well, i would not want to be on a cruise or airplane at this time. If i were you i would wait. Good luck and good trip when the time is appropriate.
