Should I go on a cruise or an all-inclusive Mexico resort?

I'm leaning towards cruise. Recommendations? I would like the cruise to be all-inclusive including alcohol if possible. Also, one that goes to good places.
I heard that for some you just stop on an island for a few hours and they give you options to do a couple different expensive things, and I would prefer something where you don't have to spend a lot of extra money to do other things.
Thanks!

Sounds like the verdict is the all inclusive resorts. Besides eating, drinking, and being by the pool/ocean, what things are there to do? It seems like it would get boring just sitting around all day?

I prefer the cruise and there is plenty to do on a cruise, they plan lots of activities, and shows.

I prefer Carnival, but it does not include alcohol, spa, coffee shop, or the Casino. Everything else is included

most Lines you will have to buy your drinks
the Lines that include alcohol are:
Yachts Seabourne
Regents Seventh Seas

Well, you will NOT find a cruise that is all-inclusive of alcoholic drinks or even soda. They make a lot of money off of those 2 things. Drinks are about $6 and soda is about $2. 15% tip is added to all drinks automatically.

An all-inclusive resort is a lot of fun. Do that.

Cruise all the way. I never spend a lot of extra money on a cruise. In fact, I have a seven day cruise in Sept that will cost four people less than $1700 with gratuities. There are plenty of activites on the ship, and I have never been bored. And I don't hang out at the pool at all.

I've done both about 4 times each. If you are looking for more true all inclusive then definatly go to the resorts. If you don't buy souvenirs then you can come back with all the money you left with.

I recomment the Riu properties, they have the best food and service for the price. The Riu Tequlia is a great value and many people I've referred there loved it. (Go look at them at: Riu.com)

Iberostar properties are fun but so huge it takes a 15 minutes walk to go from the resturant area to the beach.

I'm not sure where you are but if you can- use Funjet and get their insurance as it's cheap and you can cancel out for any reason (like a hurricane or whatever).

Just relax and remember in any International travel there usually are a few speedbumps, don't let those ruin the other fantastic 98% of the trip.

It depends on you. I don't know of any cruises that include alcohol. The biggest question is, Do you want to stay in one place or go to several different places?

Carnival offers good ports and they give you a good amount of time in the ports. We are going on a cruise in December and we have at least 8 hours in every port. There are tons of things to do on a cruise. I was never bored. We were not on a set schedule like someone said before. We could do what ever we wanted when we wanted. There were certain times we had to be back on the ship of course but nothing else was really controlled.

Have fun wherever you go!

Well on a cruise you are not going to have alcohol included in the price. UNLESS it is a higher end cruise like Cunard. On a cruise you just to different islands for just hours. You also have to purchase land trips.

In Mexico you are able to get everything included in the price as well as non moterized water sports and if you stay at a Palace Resort then you get unlimited tours to some of the local area attractions.

So for the money I would lean towards Mexico..

I would definitely go towards an all inclusive Mexico resort. In 2002, we stayed in an excellent resort in Playa del Carmen called the Gala Resort. It had two buffets for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, which were VERY good, and a couple of other ones that were Italian and Mexican, which were not very good, but the buffets were awesome. They had a bar right near the beach, and a pool also. The beds were not extremely comfortable, but weren't too bad. In the room you had a mini-fridge that was fully stocked with bottles of Sprite, Coke, and any other drink you wanted. I thought it was pretty cool that the pop was in glass bottles... but that's just me. Haha. You could also take a short taxi ride into town, but watch out for the beggars on the street...just ignore them. The fun part was that in the shops, the shop owners expect you to haggle with them. We went on an ATV tour through the jungle, and that was one of the highlights of the whole trip. We also went on a cruise to Cozumel. All in all, I think that an all inlclusive Mexico resort would be your best bet.

If you like being told what you can do, and when - then go on the cruise. Beware, they expect tips for housekeeping, waiting, pouring wine, seating you, etc, etc, etc.. on the last day. It can be costly. A resort is better if you want to eat "whenever" and do things at your own pace. No hidden costs here. Enjoy!

JW
I've personally enjoyed both, you can book a cruise and prepay for excursions and other activities. for the drink you can buy a pass on the ship that will allow you to pay one price for unlimited drinks. I cruised with Royal Caribbean and that how it was. My all Inclusive trip was to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; it was bananas, white sandy beach and great food. I recommend this website to book your trip www.LouMarTravel.com
