Should my parents go on the Cruise?

My parents booked a cruise to the Bahama's for the 25 of september but haven't gotten plan tickets yet. I'm not sure if they should even go on the trip because of the hurricanes. They'll be gone for 5 days.

Do you think it will be safe for them to go during those days? I need to know info on the other hurricanes coming that way. I want them to go on the trip but only if I know they will be safe. Can someone please help me if its better to go now or postpone the trip.

Yes your parents should go on the cruise - the cruise line will not refund the money and if they purchased travel insurance "fear of hurricane" will not be covered. If there really is a hurricane, that is when action needs to be taken. Cruise lines deal with the hurricane situation every summer. They are very experienced and will not risk the lives of the crew or passengers to make a buck - plus, can you imagine the PR nightmare that would take place in that situation? The entire line would go under. Can you remember the last time a cruise liner went down in a hurricane? Me neither. They aren't going to risk that. They have wonderful technology on the ship that will allow them to avoid bad weather.

** Have them splurge on the travel insurance. It's worth it.

at this point, they most likely would lose money they paid for the cruise, if they cancelled.
I would go to weather.com to find out more about the forcast.
but also remember that most cruise lines have the safety of their crew and passengers in mind. They would not put them in the face of a hurricane, they would steer the ship away from the storms or change the itinerary.
I would suggest as others have, if you are traveling in hurricane season to buy the cruise insurance which covers this.(if its available).

best wishes.

Time travler
Cruise critic just made a newsletter about hurricanes and cruises. They reassured cruisers that when there is a weather problem, they put the safety first to the passengers. They, for instance diverted caribbean cruises from one side to the other when Gustav was around. It is always a risk to cruise during hurricane season, but just so you know very very few cruises are cancelled because of hurricanes. I would suggest though that they fly the day before in case there are some sort of delays. Don't postpone the cruise is it will cost you .

We have no way of knowing if there will be hurricanes near the Bahamas on Sept. 25. If it were this week, I'd say definitely no....but who knows what will be out there 3 weeks from now?! Besides, cruise ships do have weather/radar information...they are not going to sail into a hurricane. Usually they will change the itinerary and go to an alternate port of call.

Yes they should go. Cruise lines will not sail into a storm they have passengers safety to think about and their own safety. We have sailed twice during hurricanes. Read all about it on our blog.
