All of the cruises I have been on have used salt water in the pools and fresh water in the jacuzzis. I did notice on my most recent cruise that some chlorine was added to the salt water, I would imagine to keep the creeping crud to a minimum. Otherwise can you imagine how much fresh water they would have to travel with to keep the pools filled?

They use ocean water on most cruise ships. I have been on 5 cruises. There are a few ships, however that do use fresh water.

The water is from the ocean.
It is filtered on board and the ships we have been on have had both fresh and salt water pools.
Normally the water is kept the same temperature as the ocean, but is heated at times of the year.
They do change the water often.

They pull the water from the sea. Did not know that until I had some in my eyes!

Ocean water. I asked becasue every night they empty the pools and then refill in the early morning. The water was very coild to me but my 11 year old didnt have any problems with it

just went on carnival celebration in july and it was salt water. have also been on royal caribbean and it was salt water.

The water in the pool is a salt water. it is possible to make a continous flow of water from the ocean while the ship is at sea. They can also use fresh water. The water from the ocean can be converted to a fresh water.

i work on a cruise ship!!!! Iberojet Cruzero

Cruisse ship I was on last year, they drained the pools each night , and refilled with sea-water. No need to add pH corrector, chlorine, or other chemicals as they are already there, and no need to filter the water except during the refill phase. Hence no maintenance required, and no-one needed to do it. And you aren't trying to keep the water good enough for fish to live in long-term.

Only been on one cruise, but it was salt water in the pool straight from the Gulf of Mexico. They did change it out during the wee hours of the morning on every day of our cruise. No chemicals were added that we could tell. The jacuzzis' were fresh water tho.

The pools on a cruise ship is from the water from the ocean. They drain it every night and refill it in the morning.

Here we have all my wonderful years of training in the arts of pool care, but the water in the pools on an ocean liner are the same as regular pools.

Salt water is difficult to maintain outside of the ocean, any one who has a salt water aquarium can tell you that. There are a bevy of different chemicals that you need to keep it stabilized and with the proper saline content as opposed to the chlorine and PH ratio to keep a pool maintained.

regualr water, not sea water
