Here is what I would suggest to bring (I am 27/f) I packed quite a bit like 3 outfits per day because I like having options, and often change multiple times a day in my regular life. If you can get by with mixing and matching outfits do that Like bring a jean skirt that can go with multiple tops or shoes that can go with most outfits.
Clothing
• a pair of nice jeans you may want to wear those at night when its chilly
• capris as another option
• a couple of sweaters for night
• a few bathing suits (they often don't dry out quick enough to wear the same one)
• cover ups (not appropriate to walk around in just a bathing suit)
• at least 1 formal/semi formal dress (I brought a lot of cute summer dresses and terry tube dresses because they were easiest not only to pack but to throw on over the bathing suit if needed)
• shorts comfortable ones
• skirts
• tops -I like tube tops for tanning purposes, but bring cute ones for hanging out, tshirts whatever you like to wear
• don't forget your underwear and bras!
• check your activities/excursions to see what attire you need for them
Accessories
• a hat or two
• sunglasses don't bring expensive hate to see them drift out to sea
• tote bag for carrying your sunscreen and stuff
• jewelry but not nice in case it gets lost
• flip flops
• nice shoes for when you dress up
• if you plan to do any long walking or the gym some good shoes for that. oh and socks
Other
• sunscreen
• lip balm with SPF a lot of lip glosses don't have it and you will burn your lips being in the sun so much
• perfume optional
• medications-Advil-sea sickness...
• Ipod, camera and other electronics you may want to use with chargers!
• magazines and books
• your bathroom stuff - toothbrush, deodorant (keep it simple not a lot of space in the bathroom)
• straightener, hair dryer, curling iron if needed
Not needed
• beach towel they give them to you
• purse possibly a little one if you want to carry your camera in it or your room card
• cell phone not necessary its a fortune to use it. check with your service to find out rates. Text messaging even costs extra.
• you don't need a lot of cash. you usually use the room card which is connected to an account they don't take cash on the ship. on some islands you use the card too
Feel free to message me with any questions you may have i'd be happy to help you to have the best trip ever! |

Yes, less of everything. Set out all the clothing and shoes, etc that you plan on taking and then cut back by about one third of it. If you travel light, you'll still have packed more than enough. Formal and dressy clothing can be accessorized to look differently a second evening in the dining room. Basic dresses can go from shopping in a port to an evening at the ship's theatre. The shopping plaza in most ports will carry any sundry item you might have forgotten. You only need to carry the smallest sizes of toothpaste, shampoo, etc. The ship will generally furnish shampoo. Flip flops are fine for during the daytime on the ship with a bathing suit and cover-up or shorts. |

First, check out what the weather forecast is looking like. Just because it's Mexico doesn't mean it may not be chilly. Pack the appropriate clothing based on the forecast.
I noticed you didn't mention how long your cruise is for. If it's longer than a week you may want to plan on wearing things for more than one day. There are generally public laundry facilities on board. Just make sure you bring quarters and some detergent if you go that route. I personally took sink packets of Tide with me and washed stuff in my bathroom sink.
If you pack too heavy (usually over 50 lbs.) you'll get hit with big fees from the airlines. The types of clothes I took were very lightweight, mainly dress pants and dress blouses. Jeans and sweatshirts are heavy so leave them at home or wear them on the plane just so you have one of each handy. And take advantage of the fact that airlines allow a sizable carry-on bag. Even if you leave it empty on the way to the cruise you'll fill it up with souvenirs for the way back.
I recommend packing a nice dress or two in case they have any formal dinners. It's better to be overdressed than underdressed.
Keep all electronic devices at home, except a digital camera and your cell phone. Every room should have a TV with various movies and TV channels in case you're bored. |

San Diego or LA/Long Beach may be pretty cool, especially out on the ocean. It won't get really warm until you get down past Ensenada down to Cabo San Lucas. Then it's like 85 degrees and 80% humidity every day. So, you'll need sunscreen, loose clothing, a hat, etc.
Also, if you're going on a 5 - 7 day cruise, there will be at least one formal night and possibly two. So, if you plan on eating in the dining room on those nights (usually the second night and the night before the last night), you'll need to have some formal wear. One thing I actually forgot on a cruise was dress socks. So, I had to wear white sweat socks with my suit (fortunately, the trousers were cut long).
Also, bring along a beach bag or small duffel bag for the excursions. You may need to bring along towels, water bottles, sunscreen, change of clothes, etc. Also, make sure you have cash with you for the excursions (they have ATMs on board, but the fees are expensive), in case you want to buy something on shore. You use your sail-and-sign card for all on-board purchases. But, you'll need cash (US money is fine) on shore. |

Your cellphone will most likely not have any bars out in the ocean, but it would be helpful to bring it incase of an emergency. There will be some formal nights on the cruise, so be sure to bring some clothing that is a little more fancy than usual. |

Along with what everyone else is telling you, if you do bring electronics such as cell phone or dvd player, or vid camera, remember to bring some kind of a power strip. There are not alot of outlets in the room. Worst thing would be for your batteries to die. |

Check ahead of time to see if snorkeling gear is included int eh excursion...most of the time it is.
Also, check the cruise lines web site to see if hair dryers and alarm clocks are provided. I thought Carnival Inspiration would have a hair dryer but it didn't. I was wishing I'd taken mine.
Take your own insect repellant. Mexican vendors will greet and hound the heck out of you and try to sell it for twice what you pay in the store...the mosquitos were horrible along the trail at Mayan Ruins of Tulum.
Bottled water is available in the room. Save yourself the trouble of taking your own and just take what's offered in the stateroom...you may or may not get charged for it.
Take a change cool weather clothing for evenings. A sweatshirt and pants/jeans should suffice. It can get cool and windy on the upper decks of the ship...especially on the forward decks where winds can reach 30+kph.
Take plenty of camera lens defogger and wipes with you when going outside. Be careful with video cameras that run tape rather than DVD. The tape can get jammed up if it's not acclimated to the humidity for at least 15 minutes before use (speaking from experience!)
Take US Dollars and in multiple denominations of $20 and lower.
Take your camera everywhere. If you're going underwater, either invest in an underwater camera case for your digital camera, or get a cheap disposable water camera. |
