Thomsons call centre problem? |
Myself and my husband went on a Thomsons cruise in October and received a final bill dated midnight the night before, which we paid. However they took an extra £280 from my card. We put in a complaint and received an acknowledgment from them dated in November saying they'd resolve it within 28 days, as per ABTA regulations. We rang after 28 days, and they said they have to get more info from the boat itself (why this wasn't done earlier I do not know) and that it'd take 2-3 days max. Left it 5 days, calleded back and they advised will get a manager to ring back in the afternoon, which they didn't. Left it 3 days, called again, they said manager will call back, he didn't. Called back 3 days later and demanded to speak to anyone higher up and they absolutely refuse, and said the only way is for them to log a call back from a manager, which he will do with 48 hours. The 48 hours will be this lunchtime, and assuming he doesn't, what can I say to them at the call centre? Additional Details They absolutely will not put you through to a manager. All they say is they can do a ring back. |

You need to tell your bank ASAP and then send numerous letters to the complaints department at Thomsons.
When this happend to me (it was a hotel though) I rang the bank and they put the money back on the card straight away and they dealt with the hotel. Try it! |

If you are getting no joy from the call centre, I would recommend you go to your local Thomsons branch in town, ask to speak to the manager and threaten to sit in there until it is sorted (although this is probably impractical).
The other option is to contact ABTA and/or Trading Standards for more advice - I imagine at this point though ABTA will be willing to step in and deal with this on your behalf.
You will probably be advised to put your complaint in writing and send a copy to both Thomson and the ombudsman. Be prepared that this probably won't be resolved until next year, by which time though you should receive your money back as well as some monetary compensation.

We had a problem simular to this when our holiday was cut short due to Hurricane Ivan, After the holiday we kept phoning call centre what a waste of time then we went to our local Thomsons branch and within a week we got the 3 day's refund that was owed us plus a bit extra as they knew there was a hurricane alert on the Carribean

just a thought here....but have you checked that the £280.00 extra they took off you,wasn't for gratuities ie: tips,for the waiters ext. i know that some cruise lines add on the on-board gratuities,and in there words to save any blushes????
if not, i would call the centre back,and if they wont put you through to higher management,threaten them with legal action and tell them you're getting in touch with the police,as this is theft...however check the gratuity side of things first. |

Always pay with a credit card.
Had a similar type of problem a few month ago. when it was not resolved I just sent my C/card payment with a letter saying as this is not resolved I have deducted from my payment.
C/card companies are equally responsible for overcharging. The c/card company just deduct it from the problem company so it is then their problem!
Worked perfectly - never heard anymore!
Be warned this only works properly if you pay your card off each month. If you owe money they just charge you extra interest next month! |
