Rest assured that they can take cash from you.

More Import....................Why should everyones tips be thrown into a kitty and be shared????????This practice does not insure good service. If you are happy with someones service tip them if not.....dont.

Automatic tipping is a rip off created by cruise lines to rape you for even more money.

TIP STANDS FOR....TO INSURE PROPER SERVICE............NOT CHARITY GIVE AWAY!!!!!!

Dusie
Most major lines who use the automatic tipping, require staff, when the tips are removed, to give up their individual cash tips up to the level of the auto tips. You are only hurting the people you wish to reward, because it goes on their service record that you were so unhappy with their performance that you pulled the tips. I ALWAYS leave the auto tips as is. Then I tip those people who go above and beyond additional cash tips. I find that the people who cancel the auto tips are just trying to get out of paying. These people leave their own homes and family to serve us over 11 hours a day and deserve ever penny and more as this is basically all they earn.

We've never traveled on Princess, but on Carnival I know you're allowed to cancel the automatic payment and tip directly to the wait staff. We usually do this because we like to actually hand them something in appreciation for their service.

Doethineb
Yes, we opted out on another line and staff were very grateful for the cash tips showing our appreciation. As long as the gratuities are shown as voluntary, there is no objection to your doing your own thing. We found it particularly touching that our restaurant maitre d waived aside his tip and asked us to give it to the waiters, as they were in greater need.

I will be doing this from here on out. I just got back from a cruise last month...and I wish that I would have added a little more to the assistant waitress's tip. I didn't want to hand her a separate envelope without giving one to the waiter as well....but....lesson learned.

Giving the cash by hand is much more personal.
