Tipping up front for Royal Caribbean Cruise? |
It says 39.00 per person for a 4 night say on the cruise. If we do this what all does it cover? Who will we tip and will get the tip out of the 39.00? Is it better just to tip as we go ar to do the 39.00 per person? Additional Details Is it 39.00 per day or for the 4 days? Is the 39.00 for the ones that handle your luggage or is that seperate? If its seperate how much do you tip them? |

TINKERTOY ..... the 1 & only
|
I have been on many Royal Caribbean cruises and they do not request or require you to tip "up front". First, there are four occasions for tipping.
(1) when you get to the pier you should tip the porter who takes your baggage at least $1.00 or $2.00 per bag, more if you like.
(2) Each time you buy a drink, or soft drink, on ship there is a gratuity of 15%-17% added to your check automatically. So if your drink is $5.50, then $.93 cents will be added and your total will be $6.43.
(3) If you order the free cabin room service on ship you should tip the person who brings your order at least $2.00 in cash. That is the only time you will need cash on ship except for in the casino.
(4) At the end of your cruise the ship will add the total of all gratuities for the wait staff and cabin steward to your on board tab. The total of your gratuities/tips for a cruise will be about $10.00 per day per person. If you use the guidelines that you have in your question you will see that the room steward, waiter, assistant waiter and MatreD are tipped and that total comes to just under $10 a day. RC will provide you vouchers for what has been added and envelopes on the last evening of the cruise so that you can present the gratuity to each person. You can add more if you want through the voucher, or in cash if you want. OR, if you do not want the gratuities on your tab you can go to the purser's desk and arrange to pay the gratuities in cash. And, you can pay your tab in cash instead of having it charged to your credit card.
That is how it has happened on all of the RC and other cruise lines I have been on and that is what you should expect on your cruise. |

Typically at the end of the cruise you receive envelopes to tip your head waiter, waiter, assistant waiter & cabin attendant. How much you tip each one is totally up to you, the info they give ($39.00) is just a guideline. You'll see your head waiter once or twice, we generally tip him/her very little if at all. The Cabin attendant picks up after u all week so we usually tip him/her the most. See how you're served & then tip @ the end. |

if it were me, I would pre-tip. the 39.00 is for your room steward and waiter. You can tip the person who takes your bags (when you are embarking and disembarking). If someone does something special for you, You can tip them with those envelopes they provide. What ever makes YOU comfortable. have a great time. |

The $39 is for your room steward, waiters. Tip the luggage people $2.00 per bag when you get off the bus.
They will give you envelopes at the end of the cruise to place your tips in - so you can hand them out. OR - you can put them on your "sea pass" at the end of the cruise, and the ship will disperse them. Make sure you tip! Those people work hard!!! |

I would do the $39 per person- it makes it a whole lot simpler than going around handing out cash each day. It also makes sure that the people you dont see behind the scenes are also taken care of. |
