Underage drinking on a cruise... is it possible?

ok... me, my GF, and one of our female friends are trying to plan a cruise for this fall. By the time we take the cruise i will be 21 but they will only be 18 and i have no problem buying them drinks lol. but anyway... from exsperience on a cruise i went on with my parents my dad bought me a drink and gave it too me and there was no problem... i went out on deck and drank it. I was just wondering if ya'll think there would be any problem with me doing the same thing for these two girls with me? we will be drinking in port... but i'd like for them to be able to join me in drinking on the boat...
Additional Details
and as a side note... we aren't the time to do anything stupid when we drink if that'll make any diff... we are the more the time to sit around and drink... or sit in our room

drink in the ports and there will be no problem...as for on the ship, drink on deck as you can buy drinks and no one will be watching who drinks them.. the main thing is to remain under control and there should be no problem

The cruise I went on last March kicked off a large group of underage college students that were caught drinking. They had security guards stationed outside their rooms while they packed. I'm not sure if they watched them all night, but I do know we got off the ship a little bit late because they were being escorted off first. It was hilarious, and really not worth the risk if you ask me. Which is why back when I was 21 and some of my friends were still underage we went to all inclusive resorts on Islands were they could drink...no risk involved and we had a blast.

EDIT to BigBrother_Trucker: Momsezno and Smiley are correct about cruising ages. This is the very reason my cousin and I didn't choose to go on a cruise when we vacationed together a few years ago. The only way we could get her on the ship was to do a temporary power of attorney for me over her. This was years ago, but it wouldn't surprise me if the rules haven't changed.

Depending on which cruise line you're thinking of sailing with, you won't be able to cruise at your ages. Check on that before you make plans.

Your room key is also your "charge card" for the cruise and it indicates whether you are > 21. You would probably have no problem buying drinks and giving them to your friends.

I would hope you could all have a great time without underage drinking. Cruising is so much fun. But, be aware that if you do get excessively rowdy, the captain can put all of you off at the next port to find your own way home.

well, some of the drinks they have the non-alcoholic drinks so if you get then the drinks that are that same type that have alcohol in them they won't really know you have it. my dad did that for my brother once. i suggest you stick with the non-alcoholic drinks drinks most of the time and get an occasional alcoholic, just to be safe.

Frankly there is so much to do on board than drink. As one other poster has stated, you may not be able to travel because of your ages. Some cruise lines require you to be 25 and 18 year olds would need to be with parents or a legal guardian.

If you can travel, the cruise line for sure will be watching you. You buying drinks and providing them to your friends will quickly be spotted. Your room key is your charge card for the cruise, it also will tell the bartender who else is traveling with you and their ages.

You may get a warning the first time but they will not allow you to continue to buy drinks. They have too much at stake if something would happen to you, your friends or other passengers. It won't matter if you are acting stupid or not.

With all of that said...depending on the ports of call, all of you may be able to legally drink while off the ship. Just check a head of time for the local drinking age.

Dan
Why don't you forget about drinking while you are on the ship. You can only get into trouble trying to get underage children alcohol. They will not be allowed to drink in port, either. In fact you can be arrested for giving them alcoholic drinks. Then you will really be in trouble-in jail with ship sailing away.

You dad giving you a drink is a lot different than you giving a girl a drink by a lot.

Regards,
Dan

I think you had no problem with your parents buying drinks for you is because they probably signed a waiver saying that they are allowing you to drink and your at least 18 years old and you were in some other country where the drinking age is lower than 21.

The 2 girls CAN'T DRINK ON THE SHIP not even at the ports. IF YOU DECIDE TO GIVE THEM A DRINK ANYWAYS, ALL OF YOU MIGHT BE KICKED OFF THE SHIP AT YOUR OWN EXPENSE. So, you guys would be responsible for any cost that you guys may have after you get kicked off. That includes air fare for flying home. Its in the policy

Its not worth it, so dont try it.

don't even think about it you will get in more trouble that you bargain for you will be giving alcohol to under age minors and you will be in International waters- I'm sorry but what you are planing to do is bad

I am not sure what "momsezno" and "smiley" are thinking? We are talking about 3 ADULTS here. 1 is 21 and the other 2 are 18. Why wouldn't they be able to cruise? They are adults and can purchase their own tickets with no problem! As for the drinking thing....be careful. You never know who is watching. Why risk getting caught and ruining your vacation just to consume a little alcohol. I hope you 3 have a very enjoyable cruise.
EDIT TO JENN B: ok I did a little research this time. 18 seemed logical enough. Carnival and Princess will allow a 21 year old to book and sail on their own. Under 21 you must have a parent or guardian 25 or older with you. Then I read the part where our "asker" stated that they are going on Royal Caribbean because of their ages. Royal Caribbeans policy states "No guest under the age of 21 will be reserved in a stateroom unless accompanied by an adult 21 years of age or older" Looks like they did their homework. Now lets hope they don't get caught drinking under age because you have to be 21 no matter who is with you, lol. Good luck kids!
