Wanting to take a cruise possiblly Australia to New Zealand.?

Firstly, how are cruises in your opinion? I've never been on one, but some friends that have said they're not that great.

I know depending on the ship, and the company they vary, but has anyone been on a cruise in those parts? How was it? And would you recommend it to someone that has never been on a cruise.

Yes you can take a cruise from Australia to New Zealand, or vice versa. We just cruised, a 14-day cruise, from Sydney to Aukland, New Zealand. The cruise was great. We cruised on the Celebrity cruise line ship, Millineum, but a couple other cruise lines also do that itinerary. Royal Caribbean, Princess, and Holland America all also do a 12 to 14 day cruise of those two countries. All of these are great cruise lines; I have cruised on all of these lines among my 20+ cruises.

Since both countries are in the southern hemisphere you need to plan on a cruise in the November through March time frame which would be their spring and summer seasons.

Our cruise had 8 port stops in the 14 days and we had about 8 to 10 hours in each port, about enough time to do a tour and shop some. But we did have a day and a half in Sydney. The seas were not rough and the sights were great. The cruises will all go through the fjords in New Zealand which are great to see. The tours we took were mainly those giving information about the native people of both countries. There are some other tours to view wildlife and see scenic back country areas.

I cruise a lot and the beauty of them is they allow you an opportunity to see and get the flavor of other countries. Then you can decide whether you may want to come back again and spend more time.

Cruising to me is the complete vacation/holiday because you not only see the other countries at port stops but have all of your meals prepared and served to you, have your cabin cleaned twice a day, get served some of the best food you will get anywhere, you can be as formal as you want or just go casual; have all types of activities on ships from a free show every evening to a casino, great gyms (also free) and pools and hot tubs along with other sports activities, depending upon the ship. Then there are places where you can just sit and relax and not do anything, except get up and go get something to eat.

Realistically, if you have never cruised before you may want to consider going on a 7-day cruise first to see how you like it. If you hate cruising then the remainder of a 14 day will seem like a really long time to you. But my opinion is you will like it. In addition, unless you like in Australia or New Zealand or the south Pacific area its a long and expensive plane flight to get to/from the cruise. If you will be traveling anywhere from the US do plan to go there at least 2 days early (you lose a day flying there and get it back on the return trip.) Which cruise line? Any of those that I mentioned above but try to go on one of their newer ships launched since about the year 2000; better ships and amenities.

Have a look on www.royalcaribbean.com and search for the ship Rhapsody of the Seas, they do cruises around australia and NZ, Royal Caribbean is a great line i think you would really like it ... most people do.

I have worked and cruised with royal Caribbean many times and loved every minute of it so i highly recommend it.

Just go look around there websites, Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Princess etc. find a ship and itinerary to see which one looks best for you.

I have been on a cruise of Australia which started in Singapore and it was truly amazing. I would not suggest such a long cruise nor one to such a far away location for a first time cruise. I would say do Alaska or the Caribbean first.

I took a 29 day cruise from Australia to Los Angeles. It went to lots of New Zealand, plus the pacific islands, Hawaii and finally California. The only people that don't like cruises are the ones who want to stay in one place for a long time. On cruises, you see many places in a short period of time. It is a great way to see the world quickly. I LOVE CRUISING and do it every year.
