We're taking an Alaska cruise next July. Is it worthwhile to get a room with a veranda, or is it too cold? |

We went to Alaska with Princess Cruise Lines. First Cruise for us and the best trip we have ever taken. We got a room on Caribe Deck at the very back of the ship, I think their terms are the "aft" on a ship. It was absolutely the best place to be, no wind ever. I had read that in cruise critic's and so we booked, after looking at deck plans, to be in the back. You are watching the wake in the water and the dolphins have a tendency to follow the ship and play in the wake. We had other friends on the ship that said, we definitely had the best balcony, they are bigger to the back and no wind. Our friends were all coming to our cabin and sitting on the balcony. We ordered breakfast brought to our room every morning and sat on the balcony and watched the dolphins play in the wake. You definitely want a balcony going to Alaska, the view is spectacular and you don't want to miss any of it. We had a tough time leaving the balcony to do anything else because we did not want to miss any of the scenery. In August (middle) the temperature was about 70 to 75 degrees everyday. In July it should be even warmer.
Happy sailing, you will love it. |

It's worth it to see the scenery in Alaska. Most people sit there and watch the wildlife onshore and the whales swim alongside the ship. |

Personally, all the cruises we go on we get balcony rooms. It makes the room look and feel bigger. It gives you a place to be alone if wanted. It is a great place to just wake up or wind down. The scenery is usually great and a nice place to take pictures. There are times you just feel like room service and it is nice to be able to eat on the balcony.
As far as never being in your room....that really depends on what type of person you are. |

I have not personally been, but three different friends who went said the scenary was fabulous. Having the veranda was great because it was so easy to come back inside to warm up. |

I worked on a ship in Alaska in the middle of September and we were up on deck in polo shirts enjoying the sun and scenery; I would say GO FOR IT! |

It isn't too cold, but I would recommend you get an inside stateroom. They're still plenty nice, but in Alaska, the sun comes up at 3 in the morning and goes down at 11. It makes it kind of hard to sleep if there's a way for light to get in. But, some people like to sight see, but I found it just as effective to sit on one of the decks and watch the scenery and wildlife. |

A veranda or balcony is awaste of money. You are not in your room that much plus you only get to see 1 side. There is way too much to see and do. Plus, aft is a great viewing spot and forward they also have nice places to sit and see. The weather is great. Plus, if you read the brouchure they would prefer you are out of your room early so they can clean. |
