We went to Egypt a couple of years ago, there have always been problems there, but we felt completely safe the whole time, we went to Cairo and travelled down to Luxor, in the towns/cities, there are "tourist police" who are there to pretty much keep you safe, and they are every 20 metres or so, and more at the famous monuments etc. In this day and age, I don't think anywhere is particularly "safe" but you can't let that stop you having what will probable be one of the most amazing trips of your life (I know it was for me anyway)

Yeah I do think it is safe. There are thousands and thousands of holiday makers having a terrific time holidaying there already this year. statistically you are very unlikely to be involved in a terrorist incident, even if one happened whilst you are there. In the week when the last bombs went off, thousands and thousands of people holidaying in egypt where not hurt by them and still had a good holiday.
You have just as much chance of being killed on the journey to or from your holiday, (wherever it is in the world) than being caught up in any terrorist incident.

If it wasn't safe the foreign office would advise against travel and you would be able to cancel or amend your holiday free of charge. Can't see this happening though. I flew out to the Red Sea area the day the Middle East war kicked off with Saddam. I thought I would be the only one there! There was actually a full aircraft and when we were there you felt a million miles away from any world issues. You will have a fabulous time. They are pretty hot on security. True what has been said about being hot. You tend to do the sightseeing trips at 5/6 in the morning at that time of year to avoid the heat. Take a high factor and very cool clothes.
