Every single cruise that I've been on was booked through vacationstogo.com they have awesome deals and like some of the other people who answered this question said, there's sometimes more than that. Sometimes, if you book a certain cruise by a certain date, or if you book a certain cabin, you will get onboard credit which is awesome, you can use it anywhere onboard and also use it for your tips which is great. After the majority of my cruises being at the end of August, I would reccomend purchasing the travel insurance just to be safe, but only if your cruise id during hurricane season. In the past, I've booked a cruise during hurricane season particularly for a certain itinerary, and the hurricane messed that itinerary up. I didn't buy travel insurance, so if I really wanted to cancel is, it would not have been worth it because I would have gotten zero dollars back. This sounds spoiled, but I was really looking forward to going to those ports of call, and also lost my money for the excursions that I never got to go to because the ship never made it to the port. Let's say you have somebody who's sick in your family, or something of that sort, you may want to buy travel insurance god forbid something happens. It will be worth it in the end, because without buying that insurance, you may not have gotten ANY money back.
Hope this helps and if you have any other questions feel free to send me a message! (: |

insurance is a good idea. the cruiselines don't really help you if something happens to ruin your trip.
booking-go to google and search. try the big discounters like

Check out all of the "Featured Deals" at:
http://vgsims.traverustravel.com/index.asp
Or find more by clicking on the "Cruises" tab.
Usually if you are planning to go in the next few weeks and you are reasonably certain nothing will prevent you from taking your trip, you probably don't need trip insurance. If you have health issues or anticipate something could happen that may prevent you from going, it might be worth buying it. |

www.vacationstogo.com has a great search engine to check different options but also allows you narrow your search down by departure port if you want to only look at cruises that are close to your home.
Click on the 90-day ticker to see some of the best values for upcoming cruises.
Carnival has also added a improved on-line booking system to their website, www.carnival.com
I have also found that ringing a Personal Vacation Planner at Carnival to be the best way to get booked on that line.
Carnival has a price guarantee...if you find a cheaper price on line w/i 24 hours of booking, they will match it.

Find a good travel agent. There are plenty who don't spam up this site. As far as purchasing Insurance - yes it is always a good idea to prepare for the worst. If you think the prices you are given are too high, consider getting your own. You absolutely do NOT have to purchase Travel Insurance thru the Cruise Line. A good Travel Agent will have several companies they represent, or just google "travel insurance" and you can find plenty. Also, check with AAA if you are a member. |

Insurance isn't a bad idea this time of year. It always gives peace of mind when traveling as well. Cruises in September usually have really good prices, which make the insurance next to nothing. If you book Royal Caribbean their insurance covers a cancellation for any reason and you get a future cruise certificate. Carnival's insurance does not cover cancellations for any reason, so it may not be worth taking the insurance directly through them. Travel agents also offer their own insurance and typically they have a cancellation for any reason clause. Bahamas is super cheap right now, you can do a 3 or 4 night Bahamas cruise for as low as $199 per person before taxes! That's an amazing deal. |

Insurance is not necessary but will give you peace of mind if something should happen and you miss the cruise.
A great place to start is with a 'Live' cruise travel agent. One who knows cruises and cruise line. One who is not just an internet seller of travel. One who will give you free advise and not charge you a 'booking fee'. One that provides service throught the the whole process from the first phone call to a welcome back phone call how did you enjoy your cruise and are you ready to plan your next cruise.
One such agency is at this web address and the price we quote you is what the cruise line quotes us.

I recommend insurance because if you were to get sick, your insurance typically does not cover you on a ship. In case of an emergency, the on board doctors can be very pricey. Hey for $50, you can have that peace of mind that your protected. |

it depends on how long you want to go for and where you want to leave from. they have cheaper 3 or 4 day bahamas cruises from miami, or the 5 day caribbean. My favorite cruise lines are royal caribbean and norweigian.
if you are looking to go next month, since it is so close, if you know you don't see any problem why you couldn't go you might be ok, but I always recommend clients to purchase it.
if you want more info, i am a travel agent, email me directly or visit:

Great place to do your shopping - with all the discounts and sometimes extra incentives. Insurance isn't a bad idea - it really doesn't cost that much and if something happens your covered. |

I like using http://www.carnival.com/Default.aspx, you get the peace of mind that you are booking directly through the cruiseline and it's the most affordable one I have seen. |
