What are the beds like on cruise ships? I need a hard mattress. How can I arrange to find out about the bed?

I've been on three cruises in the past year, so, you can arrange for a hard bed with the guest relations department. Most cruises, especially royal caribbean, make it their only goal for the vacationer to be satisfied.

I went on five last year, slept like a baby every night... They're so good they advertise the mattresses and pillows for sale.

the beds on Carnival are pretty strong, but they have a pillowtop that's kind of like memory foam. They are super comfortable.

I was on a cruise lately and the beds were nice and firm. But if your worried about falling asleep the ship just drifts you to sleep. Most beds are the same but if you really want a specific type of mattress you can bring your own mattress pad.

i have found the mattress's and beds just right...they are firm but not too hard, the bedding fantastic. Yes, if you sleep in a twin theya re, well the size of a twin, but very comfortable. i never felt like i was squished in

There is of course only one answer.

For your specific cruise on a specific ship you have to ask the cruise line! Generalities do not solve the question on that one mattress you are going to sleep on!

We have been on 20+ cruises. The beds were all comfy but varied in softness/hardness!

IMO, Costa has the worst, little more than a thick piece of foam on a rigid base. Hard, yes. Comfortable, no. Bad enough that I've heard questions and complaints raised about the "camp cot" mattresses at the onboard ship talks. The officers claim that the line is aware and does not get complaints on the other (European) side of the Atlantic.

Although the article provides good information, be advised that this is a recent initiative for most lines. If you sail on one of the older ships where new bedding was not part of a refurbishment, you'll get something else...

FWIW, Carnival and HAL are so proud of their bedding that they offer new mattresses for sale via the web...

Sorry to burst your bubble but the mattresses are usually soft. My mom actually looks forward to the beds on the ship. The only bed that isn't soft is a roll away bed. Its very springy if you like that. So if you would like a roll away bed, you can ask your cabin steward for one when you first get on board. I hope this helps!
